Subject: Cuticle question
Message: It is interesting to note that the cuticle is what grows out to be a fingernail - or at least when a cuticle is flatten and dried it becomes as hard as a nail. So my question is, should one actually trim off a cuticle or just push it back. Also, since there are creams to soften and moisturize the cuticle, isn't cutting them damaging to brittle nails?
Also I would like to know what the ingredients are in the Natural Nails Growth Formula. Thanks tom

Message: Tom,
The cuticle and nail are two different things. Pushing back and trimming cuticle will not damage the nail at all unless you become overly aggresive. Some people do not need to trim their cuticles, however, most do in order to keep them clean looking.
Hope this helps, Anna

Message: try putting something really bitter on your fingers so that when you go to bite them you taste the nasty biter thing and then stop.

Message: Taylor,
there are no easy answers to quitting. i've been biting for 38 years and am going on 2 months of not biting today-and yes, i do have nails and healthy cuticles. if you bite and chew like you say you do then putting bitter or even hot solutions on them won't help. i've done them all and just bite right on through. don't waste your money. when your ready to quit you'll find a way and realize there are no "quick-fixes", just lost money.

Message: How do i safely trim my own toenail cuticles? I have
gentle and dextrous hands and am certain it can be
done safely. Still, I am not sure if I am trimming too
much or not enough. I've only ever had one pedicure
and I observed the technician's technique: she trimmed
my cuticles evenly and straight across. But I am unsure
if it is possible to cut deeper than I can see or feel into
the nail base or not. Is it unsafe to tug on the
cuticle?....please help. thanks for everything.

Message: fingernail and toenail cuticles should never be cut by anyone. they need to be pushed back gently after softening them. push them back on a regular basis and there is no need to cut them. it is so incredibly easy to cut too deeply-especially on toenail cuticles when they are so far away. cutting too deeply or too much leaves cuticles open for infection. i know manicurists and pedicurists do it all the time, but it's not something they should be doing. what happens if they accidentally cut someone, draw blood, and then use those same cuticle nippers on you without properly disinfecting them. suddenly, a cuticle infection is the least of your worries.

Message: Im a nail tech and I trim cuticles as most people would rather the excess skin be removed than end up with hangnails (excess cuticle which can split and end up infected)!! If you dont trust yourself trimming them with cuticle trimmers/nippers then buy some cuticle remover and softener cream. All you have to do is soak your feet/hands then apply the cream, let soak a little longer then take them out of the water and gently push away the excess skin with an orange wood stick or cuticle pusher. You shouldnt push your cuticles back without a cream or without soaking them first as this can also end in damage to the cuticle area. Also - as a nail tech I know I sanitise all of my equipment in front of my clients, if you are worried about lack of hygiene standards then just ask them to sanitise them quickly in front of you!! simple!!

Message: Tom,
Consider your cuticle as a bumper guard to protect the rim of your nails. It is there for a reason... If hangnails are at issue, keep them moisturized and pliable with lanolin ans/or vitamin e oil. Use your own fingertips to gently push back the cuticle so that you do not traumatize them. This will fix the cuticle problems.
Our Natural Nails Growth Formula will help in this area in that it is lanolin rich, and you can push back the cuticles while applying the formula..
Two birds, one stone.
