Subject: Cuticle Infection
Message: I trimmed my cuticle (big mistake) and now it's a little swollen and it seems as if there is a small infection forming, is there any home remedy I can apply to make it go away?

Message: Hi! Tis sort of funny - I've had more infections since I quite the acrylic!
Anyway - The best thing is to soak your infected fingers in warm salt water! Now, I found out last summer - if it doesn't clear up in a couple days - or even seems worse, get to your doctor.
I seem to get a type of infection more common to wood workers - without the saw dust exposure!
Take care,
Linda

Message: I've had tons of cuticle infections, and my mother
always warns me that it can go all the way up my arm
and then my arm would have to be amputated! a little
extreme.
Anyway, I've progressed past ripping/cutting/biting off
my cuticles, and now, I've accidentally ripped off part of
my nail (near my cuticle). The raw skin is red, swollen,
has weird stuff coming out of it and is bulging through
where the nail should have been. I've got Neosporin
and a band-aid on it, but I don't know what else I can
do. Worst part is that I did it to myself!
Please help.

Message: my cuticle still hasnt grown back yet
and worse
the new nail material that is growing now looks pretty damaged.
the nail before the loss of an entire cuticle was smooth and hard, the new nail being grown is "bumpy", and these little dents that look like semi holes are on the surface.
I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO HEAL THE CUTICLE AREA!!!
i've been using a hand and nail cream lotion hoping it would help facilitate healing but it doesnt seem to be working very quickly if at all.
does the cuticle ever grow back when trimmed?
what kind of doctor would i go to see
i heard i should see a podiatrist.
i dont think theres a doctor that specializes in cuticles.
please please help, i'm starting to really freak out

Message: ashley,
at the moment be more concerned with infection. your nail will grow back. is it red and inflamed or have a discharge?

Message: I was doing a search on cuticle infections when I happened upon this site , TRUST ME when I say this , it is nothing to take lightly , I am being treated now for what I thought was a simply cuticle infection , turns out its not so simply , you can (if left untreated) lose a finger!!!! allllll from a cuticle tear , go figure , I visited the Dr. yesterday , was given a strong antiboctic shot and meds. I had to return today because it had worsened , the Dr lanced the area , which was EXTREMELY painful , and he did a culture , I have to return tomorrow for a followup , I still may have to see a surgeon , we are unsure as of yet. but beware , dont tear at your cuticle's , it can actually be very dangerous , it has taken 2 days off work , lots of meds , and lets not mention the pain , I get faint at the thoughts of it!

Message: Melissa,
I am so sorry to hear all of this.... Thanks for bringing this to our attention..... You know, our cuticles are there for a reason, cutting or trimming them off and running the risk of infections is not the choise of wisdom.
Please let us know how you get on!
