Message: I too am allway biting my nails. I have for as long as I have had teeth, and I am 32 now. I did find a product at one time that did work, but I don't know how to find it again. I found it at the state fair. It brushed on like a polish. It smelled like airplane glue while it was wet, but had no smell once dry. It did NOT wash off, but took several days to wear off. It had a very bitter taste, but not a hot pepper taste which has never worked for me. I do not recall the name of the product but I know it worked! I stopped biting and had long healthy nails for about 1˝ years. Then I became a volunteer firefighter. And one one of our calls we had to dig a boy out (by hand) that was trapped in a hole. Well that broke most of my nails, but at least the boy did not suffer more than a sprained ankle. I did not have the product anymore, and I started biting again. My problem now is I have not been able to find this product since. Does this product sound familiar to anyone? I desperately want to stop biting my nails! Thanks... Scooter

Message: I used to bite my nails all the time. To prevent myself from biting my nails I dip them in vinegar. The taste should keep your nails away from your mouth. Plus you can also use tabasco sauce. It's a cheap way to stop nail biting.
Good luck!!!

Message: Scooter, that sounds like the bitter tasting nail polishes you can buy from stores. You can get them from any chemist or even supermarkets. If you use them, it's sometimes a good idea to vary between a few different tastes because you can become immune to one bitter taste, which is what happened to me.
They have names like "Stop That" and "Nail Biter" etc. You can also put vaseline or other yucky tasting things on your nails.
Hope this helps.

Message: i always bit right through everything. keeping them out of my mouth was what worked for me. i just decided enough was enough and i was sick of the pain and wasted time. at some point you just have to decide to stop and do it. with me there was no "tapering off", or "i'll only bite one nail", or if i make them taste disgusting enough i won't bite them. it was all or nothing, it wasn't easy, and it didn't happen overnight, but it sure feels great now.

Message: You can buty all the lotions and potions you want to stop you from nail biting, but the real solution is for you to STOP BITING! You have to go absolutely cold turkey on it and be conscious of what your doing.
Keep a nail file in your pocket and shape your nails rather then biting them. It's a lot cheaper and a lot more sanitary.

Message: lucy,
i bit my nails, that bad, for 35 years. my mother, all my early years, tried everything to get me to stop and i never would. all the "remedies", the hardeners, vitamins, minerals, bitter liquid, etc., never worked. a lot of wasted money. i bit right through everything, including acrylic nails, which ended up making my fingers and what nail there was in even worse shape and weakened even more so i was able to bite them down even worse. after a "really good bite" i couldn't even grab a door knob to open a door. i just got so sick of it last year, finally, that i quit for the last time. like any bad habit you have to decide to quit and do it. it takes months, not days to show improvement. it took years to get them that way. you just have to decide you've had enough of the pain and ugliness of it and decide to make a change. i have healthy, strong nails now with the help of the products from this site and i have to work at it everyday.

Message: I was biting my nails for as long as i can remember. Until last year when i turned 30 i stopped. Cold turkey. No dips, polishes or yucky stuff. Ya just gotta stop as Gypsy said.
Also i just recently went to the dentist, and i had never been asked if i was a nail biter. Apparently long term "chronic" nail biting alters the way the wear of teeth.
