Ok, i know the best way to get fake nails off is to dip them in pure acetone, but i found out yesterday from my chem teacher that acetone may be a carcinogen!!! Is there any other way to get them off w/o pain or going to the nail place???

Bleach. If you soak your fingernails in bleach, they will fall right off. I tried and it doesnt harm the finger or fingernail at all.

NOOOOO! DO NOT USE BLEACH. YOU WILL END UP WITH DESTROYED FINGERS AND ANY NAIL YOU MIGHT HAVE LEFT. yeah, acetone isn't something you want to swallow, but it isn't harmful if you are just soaking your acrylics in it. acetone is quickest, but there are polish removers out there that are acetone based, but have moisturizers in them so you don't dry out what's left of your own nails. they just take a little longer to work. the combination of acrylic powder and monomer mixed together to do a fill-in for acrylics is, by far, much worse than soaking them in acetone,ONCE, to remove the acrylics. DON'T USE BLEACH.

i got fake nails at zellers and i thought they would look cool and they did and then i did not want them on no more and then i tried putting my fingernails under steaming hot water and they would not come off and i bought the kind of nails that has the glue that drys like in a second and if u get it on your skin and your fingers get stuck together it hurts tryin to get them on stuck and the glue is quick glue so how do i get them off with out them doing anything to my nails underneath the fake ones ?????

water doesn't work. you have to use acetone polish remover and soak them off. it's the only way. if you try and "pop" them off, layers of your own nail will come off too.

try soaking in acetone polish remover. if that doesn't work, they will have to be filed off. yes, your nails will be very thin and weak. one week or 3 months, it doesn't matter. what they do to them before they are applied is what puts them in such a deplorable state.
