Subject: growing split
Message: I have a reaccuring issue with my thumb nails that has been happening since I was a teen (i'm 35 now). My thumb nails grow from the base up split clear thru to the tender skin beneath. They continue to grow split on either 1 or both thumbs for weeks to months and has sometimes bled and oozed. they continue to grow this way until for unknow reasons it just stops and my nails start growing ok again. i do not have weak nails they are well formed and strong. i have never used artificial nails either. anyone ever heard of this??? please let me know.

Message: My brother has a fingernal that grows into a split shape. He says he has a cloven fingernail. Anyway, he knows of no damamge dont to it, but has used harsh chemicals due to his cabinetry job. He has had a past life of over indulgance in alchohol, and I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but alcohol can rob the body of many nutrients as well as cause absorption problems in the digestive system. He also does not eat enough protein. A "carbo junkie".
I suggested he use spirulina supplement or nutritional yeast or Brewer's yeast, since these nutritional foods contain the esssential amino acids that are needed for healthy nails and hair. Silica from horsetail plant is another helpful supplement for healthy nails and hair. You can find these products at health food stores.
Many health problems show up in the nails. Malfunctioning thyroid, diabetes, as well as nutritional deficiencies can cause nail problems.
Hope this helps!

Message: I went to the doctor several years ago because my thumb nail was growing out split. It had grown out entirely to the end, so the nail was basically in two sections. My family doctor said the nail would probably have to be removed and sent me to a dermatologist. The dermatologist took a quick look and advised me to place a small amount of super glue along the cracked area all the way to the base of the nail. He didn't offer an explanation as to why it starts to split, but said that once it starts, the tension from the two sections will make it continue to grow out split. I applied new super glue every few days and the nail started growing out correctly. Last week, I noticed the split again (same thumb)and promptly applied the super glue remedy. Hope this inexpensive and harmless treatment helps!

Message: 3 years ago, when i was getting artificial nails put on, the nail tech damaged the cortex of my thumb nail ever since then, my nail has split right up the center of my nail. i work in the medical profession and no one has been able to offer me a solution to the problem. After years of having weak peeling nails, i started taking vitamins from GNC, and my nails started to grow. only the split in my nail was catching on everything. I decided to try applying fiberglass to my nail - best decision i ever made. If the split is still there I can't tell because it is no longer visible and no longer breaks or tears because it catches on everything. If anyone has a more lasting solution please let me know. Until then I will swear by the fiberglass.

Message: Like the rest of you, my left thumbnail doesn't grow past the start of the white part of the nail without splitting. It catches on everything all the time. I recently noticed my father has the same problem with his thumb on the same hand. Is this hereditary, or are we lacking some sort of important nutrient? This problem is most frustrating...

Message: I have been having a split from about 1/16" from the cuticle to the fingertip on my right thumb nail for quite a while. The split finally grew together, but I could still see the crack, so I polished my nails about 10 days ago thinking that the polish would "glue" the nail together until it grew out. I got a sharp pain where the crack is about 4 days ago & yesterday I noticed green under the nail at the cuticle where the polish had grown out. Fearing an infection that might get into my blood stream or bone, I went to the doctor. After numbing my thumb, he cut a 1/16" strip in the nail from the fingertip to about 1/16" from the cuticle to drain the infection; then he applied a cream, bandaged it, & gave me a prescription for an antibiotic. He told me to soak the nail in warm, soapy water, dry it, & put a band-aid on it twice a day for about a week or two. He said the nail should grow out in about a year (which seems long to me since my nails grow fast). He said this is rare & he doesn't know what causes it. I would like to know the cause (as I'm sure y'all do) so I can prevent the nail from splitting again.

Message: You are all on in the right place to receive the product that will in fact help your nails growth issues. Please read some of the information contained within the site. The product is simple to use, works every time, but only if you use it!
You are on fingernailcare.com
The answer is right here, just look a little further.
and Haley you haven't tried EVERY THING! If you had, then your problem would no longer be getting your nails to grow and be healthy and natural. Your problem would be keepin the trimmed.
