Subject: Peeling Fingernails
Message: What can I take to help my fingernails grow, and stop being soft, weak, and peeling? I take 3200 mcg of Biotin, and it still has not helped. Is there a supplement that would help me with this problem?

Message: peeling fingernails is a sign of not eating enough vitamins and minerals so if you eat more of those things and less junk food than that will probably help. and don't ever get fake nails because they will make them even more flimsy

Message: fake nails will destroy them. you would have to be severely deficient in vitamins and minerals, i believe, for it to affect the nails so severely. anytime you eat healthier and consume less junk food, has to be better for the body and therefore better for healthier keratin in nails. peeling nails are often genetic and a reflection of how we care and maintain them also.

Message: Have had them most of my life. Had acrylic
nails for 2 years until nail fungus hit. Had
them removed and after the mess underneath
grew out my nails were FANTASTIC for 6
months. Had recently moved from Maine to
Tennessee. Went back to Maine for a month
and my nails practically disintegrated. Now
they are all peeling again as well as
something new-all except my thumbs on
which the nails are fairly decent-white spots
appeared on most of them in various
locations. My diet is quite good and I take
multi vitamins and calcium.

Message: amy,
your nails are still trying to recover from the 2 years of acrylic abuse. the white spots are bruising spots which show up as white on the nail bed-even after you have removed the acrylics for a while. the peeling is your nails saying they are dehydrated. a good diet is important for healthy skin, body and nails, but if you're getting all you need from the foods you eat then extra vitamins aren't going to help your nails. i'm not saying a multi-vitamin isn't a good thing, but don't take it or a supplement thinking it's going to suddenly give you strong, long nails. so much of our nails health is genetic and environmental. putting moisture back into them is essential.
