Subject: Another answer to black verticle lines
Message: I got this off a nail health website when looking into why I have sporadic little black lines on my nails. Mine do grow out though. I'd just wondered what they were from.
Splinter Hemorrhages - A disruption of blood vessels in the nail bed can cause fine, splinter-like vertical lines to appear under the nail plate. Splinter hemorrhages are caused by injury to the nail or by certain drugs and diseases. However, trauma is the most common cause. Splinter hemorrhages resolve spontaneously.

Message: I also have had these thin black lines in my fingernails. It grows out. No discomfort and no trauma remembered. Seems I heard it was a sign of a deficiency in the body. White spots is supposed to be Zinc - what is thin black lines?

Message: white spots are bruises to the nail bed. most we don't even realize we do. black lines are, most of the time, splinter hemmorages. i don't believe either, in these cases, have anything to do with vitamin defficiencies. just my own opinion.
