Subject: Split from top to bottm
Message: I have a split in my nail running right from the top of the nail to the nail bed, it is about 1mm wide. The split appears to start just above the cuticle but because of it's position, it splits as soon as it starts to grow out. It has been like this for the last 5 years and it drives me nuts!
I have tried all sorts of glues to hold it together until it grows out, with no real success.
Should I have the whole nail removed - or is there any other method of fixing this?
Thanks in advance.

Message: I have had a vertical crack on one of my fingernails, for over 2 years now. It catches on things and splits more down into the nailbed. When I wore acrylic nails they covered the crack, but I prefer not to wear them anymore. I have since tried nail glue to keep the split from cracking. It helps temporarily. Anyway, I can rid my nail of this problem and cause it to mend?

Message: angela,
part of the problem may be it and your other nails are dehydrated. the acrylics dried it out and made it worse and the nail glue is probably making it worse in the long run also. have you tried buffing it at all? put a good cuticle oil on it, massage it in 2 or 3 times a day, or try the growth formula on this site. try some moisture first and see how that goes.
