Subject: Missing Cuticle?
Message: I seem to be missing the cuticle on one of my
fingernails, and now the nail occasionally grows with a
dent in it. Will the cuticle ever grow back? Is there
anything I can do to speed it along?
Thanks!

Message: I wear acrylic nails all the time and about a week ago I accidently banged one of my nails really hard at work. It was so painful and it swelled up really bad, so I went back to the nail shop and the nail technician put some fungus remover drops in the nail and she said that it would help it get better. So I left it at that because I had to get back to work, so she told me to come back in a few dayz so that she can see what the results was and she was going to remove the acrylic nail. But to me the fungus remover made it hurt even worse and underneath my real nail started to dry up and I could pull the stuff out, it was so disgusting, and my nail became so loose, so within a day or two the whole fingernail came off and now I don't know what to do, I don't know if it's gonna grow back or what, is there anyway I can get it repaired because this is so not me, do they have special surgeries for situations like this, I normally get my hair and nails done every week, so I can't imagine how I'm going to maintain this. If there's a way, will you please let me know as soon as you can..PLEASE!!!!!!

Message: Rosalind,
in order for a nail to grow back the acrylic has to be left off, otherwise it will never grow. the last thing you needed on your nail was a fungus remover. the acrylic should have been taken off as soon as the tech saw the swelling and you would still have a nail. your nail tech added insult to injury. there is no surgery, sorry. it's going to take 3 to 4 months for a new nail to grow back. you might want to re-think your choice of nail techs.

Message: Your nail will definetly grow back depending on the shock that its gone through. This happened to me and I actually ripped artificial nail off with my real nail attached. slowly it grew back from the cuticle and it was so healthy and new. This took about 5 months for me.

I dont think your post will do a lot of good here. This one was posted in February of 2005. Though I am glad to hear that your nail recovered. If the matrix is severly tramatized the nail root could die. NO NAIL! If that is not the case then usually a healthy nail will replace the damaged one.
