Subject: HELP NEED ADVISE!!!A.S.A.P.
Message: i am a 14 year old girl and i smashed my nail in a car door about a month ago and the nail is now half blue(on the left side not the bottom half) and if you press on the top it will come up without pain and it is barely connected to my finger i can see a new thin nail
SHOULD I CUT THE NAIL OFF? SHOULD I LEAVE IT ON??
CAN I PUT FAKE NAILS OVER IT OR WILL THAT DAMAGE THE NAIL EVEN MORE??

Message: Sarah, OUCH! Smashing your finger in car door was very painful I'm sure. The blue you see is from blood under the nail due to your injury, like a bruise. DO NOT APPLY FAKE NAILS! You should keep your hands clean, apply neosporin ointment to the affected nail area(to prevent infection and promote fast healing). The nail that "comes up" will most surely come off eventually, DON'T PULL IT OFF! After applying the neosporin, put bandaids around your nail to keep it pressed down. Use several bandaids if necessary. Your finger will grow a new nail, but it doesn't happen overnight, ok. Let your mom help you with the bandaids so they aren't too tight on your finger, you don't want to cut off circulation, as circulation is important for healing.

Message: my friend smashed my finger in her door. it has blood underneath but it shows no sign of falling off or growing another nail. I've tried using a hot needle to poke through and drain the blood out with alcohol but that doesnt seem to work really well. is there another way i can remove the blood especially if my nail is not going to fall off?

Message: Tara,
If the nail shows no signs of coming off, you would do best to allow the dried blood to grow out and clean under the nail as it does so. There is not a medical necessity if the nail has the possibility of a full recovery. It may be a bit unsightly for a while, but that is a small price to pay considering some of the possibilities for real devastation.
As long as there was no sustained trauma to the matrix, a full recovery of the nail is almost certainly guaranteed.

Message: I shut my finger in the car door about a month ago and dried blood is under about half of it. I see no signs of my nail coming off or growing another. Will my nail go back to normal. What will happen.

Message: is your nail growing at all? if your nail didn't come loose from the nail bed or fall off, then it should grow on out. it might take a couple of months.
