 Subject: shut my fingernail in a car door

I accidentally shut my finger in my car door. It hurt really bad and started to turn black and blue. Now here I am a couple weeks later and my finger is fine but my nail is damaged and its like peeling off and there is new nail under it. How long will it take for it to heal?

I would be interested to hear what happened in your case. I had slammed my finger the other day and it is turning black. What can I expect?

hi!
I shut my fingernail in a window really hard, and like you, my fingernail is damaged and started to come off.
However, it has now come off completely.but no new nail is underneath. it fell off yesterday.
any idea if a nail will ever grow back??

as long as the living, growing tissue underneath the hard nail bed, called the matrix, wasn't severely damaged then a new nail will grow back. it will take anywhere from 3 to 4 months for a new nail to completely grow back. keep the tissue that is there, soft and moisturized with vitamin e oil so you're giving it a good place to grow back on. time will tell.
