Message: I have been told by my doctor that she has seen upward curving nails in patients who chewed their nails during their formative years.

Message: A,
most of the time it is heredity. not much you can do about that. keeping them well groomed and short is about the only advice i can add.

Message: There is a medical situation called spooning of the nails, but I don't know if it's similar to what you are experiencing. From what I understand of spooning, the center of the nail is kind of sunken down like the center of the spoon, and then the sides of the nails curve upward. However it sounds like you are describing the growth of your nail at the ends being in an upward curve.
In case you haven't asked your doctor, you could ask about spooning, because in some cases it can be caused by an iron deficiency which can lead to anemia.
