Subject: fingernail pain
Message: Everytime I cut one of my fingernails I cut into the sensitive skin that is attached to the nail. It hurts something awful. Only one of my fingernails is like that, for some reason the skin under that nail comes almost to the top of the nail. Is there anything that I can do to stop that nail bed skin from growing almost to the top of my fingernail?

Message: Sounds like you are cutting your nails to short, try to allow them to grow out some more, don't cut, FILE instead.

Message: I have a nail that has been lifted away from the nail bed for sometime. I wear fake nails and it seems to grow out when i have the nails on but it never connects back to the skin. I will get a severe throbbing feeling all the way up my finger in to my hand and my other fingers sometimes and it starts with that finger, the pain lasts for about 5 minutes or so and lets up. The finger is very sensitive, if I hit it on something it hurts. Any ideas what this is? There's no discoloration or fungus, just pain.

Message: shelia,
your nail is separating from the nail bed due to the damage the acrylics-filing, fill-ins, drilling-have heaped upon them. our own nails are meant to stay attached to the nail bed. it's as if someone were taking pliers and pulling off your nail a little at a time. the pain you feel is a warning of worse things to come. how many red flags do you need before you stop it? it will get worse and you will end up with far worse problems.

Message: Hello!
This discussion thread has been here years ago but I'm looking for some information why my nails seem to be separating from my fingers.
But my condition is not happening at the nail bed, but starts at the tip of my fingers.
More dirt can accumulate under because the flesh is not attached to the nails anymore. And just around where the separation occurs, the flesh becomes reddish.
Does anybody know what this condition is?
Thank you!

Message: amy,
you have an infection of some sort. how long has this been happening? only a doctor can tell if it's due to bacterial or fungal infection.
