Subject: infected cuticles
Message: I have a horrible habit of picking at my cuticles which leave them dry, read, and puffy. It has even gotten so bad that I have a lump on one of my fingers between the second nuckle and my cuticle (just above the cuticle). What do I do. I have tried applying neosporian and bandaids every night, but that doesn't seem to work. I need some suggestions

Message: hydrogen peroxide the area, then put neosporin creme and a bandaid on it at night. sounds like an infected cuticle. keeping it clean and free of dirt will help.

Message: Keep nail dry, if it is too infected and swollen, you would need some type of oral antibiotic. Wear gloves that have lining too keep the nail from getting worse.wash with anti-bacterial soap and warm water 3 times a day.

Message: I have had several infected cuticles over my lifetime. All stemming from picking and tearing at them. 1 word. Neosporin. Did the trick everytime. Of course, the best course of action is to stop picking at them ;)

Message: I used to work for a podiatrist. A good thing to do is soak your fingertip in Domoboro, but a good home remedy for that would be warm salt water for a good ten minutes. That will help draw some of the infection out before you start treating it. Then apply your Neosporin, Bacitracin or whatever you have on hand. First time, try doing that before bed and putting a bandaid on so the ointment stays put all night. Good luck! That type of infection can get pretty puffy and painful, as you know.
