Soak them off in acetone, because pain is never a good sign. You never know if you've got an infection of some kind that's causing you pain. Was the technician rough with you when you had your nails put on?

I've been wondering about getting fake nails put on, is there any danger in this? If there is what kind of risks are involved? Also how much up keep is there with fake nails?

don't do it. they will destroy your own nail bed. the tips are glued on with strong nail glue, but before that the real damage is done. your nail bed will be roughed up. the first layer of your own nail bed will be sanded away, then an acid primer will be applied to ward off fungus and then a dehydrator wil be applied to further suck all the moisture out. after that a mixture of powder acrylic and monomer will be applied as a ball and spread around to form a nail. more sanding will be done after that. finding a nail tech that speaks and understands what you want or english for that matter, is another concern. you can be nicked, burned with the drill, left with what is known as "rings of fire" around the cuticle, have an allergic reaction to any of the chemicals used and spend a lot of money for something that needs upkeep and will destroy your nails. when you are tired of them in a couple of months, what then? you soak them off in acetone and find you have nothing left underneath. just don't do it. you will regret it. i've been there, i know.

Been there, don't do that. Once I had them removed, it took about ONE YEAR for my nails to completely recover and grow to a moderate length.
