Hey Jenna
My name is Felicia and I am a 24 year old nail biter who has been biting my nails my whole life and I have really small fingers and I need to stop biting my nails. But I wanted to let you know something that I have notice. I have notice that when you put acrylics on they do help your nails to grow and that is the reason why you get acrylics you have to go in for fills every 2-3 weeks after originally getting your nails done. Because your natural nails are growing underneath the acrylic and it pushes the acrylic up. And then another good thing about acrylics is most people that are nails biters stop b-cuz you can't bite acrylics unless your really nuts. So go in and get some acrylics that are cute and by yourself some cute jewerly to put on your fingers and your wrist and when you start to get compliments it would make you feel good and you will like the way your hands look. So anway I am such a blabbermouth but here is another tip that I found:

i go to school to become a cosmetologist and we are studying nails and i've learned that when you bite your nail that actually stimulates it so they grow faster. It might not appear this way because you never give them a chance to grow because you always bite them but they will not stop growing.

Oh my god I hope you are able to read this message b-cuz I have tried a # of times to send it to you. But anyway let me tell you that I am 24 years old and I have always bite my nails but I stop biting them when I have on acrylics. They really help. Some people's experiences w/acrylics weren't so cool. But mine was straight. The acrylics helped me to stop biting my nails b-cuz I didn't have a natural nails to bite I had a fake one that was hard and didn't really taste as good as your natural nails(oh my god natural nails taste good I am really insane girl). But anyway, I love acrylics and I love them when they are long. But long acrylics have the tendency to pop off quicker than say short nails but I don't care b-cuz that's what I like. But anway back to my point when you get acrylics you are gonna have to go and get them fill like in a week or 2 weeks b-cuz your natural nails will grow out underneath and push the acrylic up. So acrylics are a great way for nail biters to stop biting their nails and getting their nails to grow. But here is another tip I found. I hope I could help you make a better decision. Holla back @ me and tell me how it went. Here is the tip;

Hi Jenna....I hope that you get this and take it to heart.
First, I am 31 years old and like sooooo many other people, have always had trouble with thin, brittle nails. I have tried everything from Lee Press on's to Silk Wraps and Acrylic nails....and everything inbetween! I have also worked in Salons my whole life and have namy years of experience in that field.
Don't get fake nails sweety.
For 2 main reasons....You are still growing and your nail bed in very delicate. Second....if you get acrylic's now you could possibly hurt the growth of your nails as an adult.
Instead....and this is just my opinion, try vitamins. The next time you are in your local Wal-Mart go down the vitamin isle. They have vitamins for nails, hair and skin....you can get it just for nails if you choose.
They really work Jenna, all you have to do is remember to take them everyday (usually 3 pills a day....you can take them at once). It is as easy as that :-) At the most you will have to pay $6.00 for a 60 - 90 day supply.
Acrylis hurt your nail bed....they promote fungus and bacteria. They can make your nails very weak and also pitted and ridged. That will hurt any chance as you get older of being able to grow normal, beautiful nails.
I wish you luck, nails are beautiful when cared for properly.....and they are also a sign of good health.

RE: Acrilic Nails....another responce

Message:
I just read the reply that you got from Felicia as well....I should have read that as well....hee hee
Biting your nails is not a good thing. It leaves your nails with rough edges and that is something that you do not want. Not only that but you have loads of bacteria that hide under your nails....think of all the things that you touch in one day and never washing your hands afterwards. Look under your nails very close.... sometimes it can be an ugly sight.
I forgot to mention in my first reply Jenna that keeping your nails clean helps as well. Using a Non-Acetone polish remover is best, filing your nails is better then clipping them, if you do cli pyour nails, do it after a bath or shower when your nails are at their softer state. Moisture is the #1 key as well.....cuticle oil is a must for beautiful nails. Also, don't use your nails for opening pop can or such items, that could make them chip or break.
And believe it or not....typing on a key board stimulates your nails own growth :-)
Good luck

Teresa

I need some advice. I got acrylic nails put on today since I bite my nails, and I want to give them a break. When I reached home, my nails where fine, but i took a nap and when I woke up, the tips of my nails (minus my thumbs and pinkies) were really sore (and still are). I had acrylics done before maybe 3 years ago, and I dont recall this. I'm not sure if its from the filing/buffing that they did to apply the nails or something else. Has anyone else experienced this?
Any advice would be helpful.

Acrylic nails have got to be one of the worst things man could have created! yes, granted they look great, but what they are doing to your natural nails is horrible. You will get ugly ridges that take forever to grow out, your nails are buffed very thin. Not to mention the fungus that can grow under the nails. what ever you do DO NOT have acrylic nails put on. Instead invest in some NutraNail 5 to 7 day growth. Its just like putting on nail polish only a little different. It is a load of calcium made especially for your nails. Natural Nails need a lot of calcium . Always after a bath or shower gently push back you cuticuls with a cuticle stick. file only one way with a netal file or both ways with aa regular emery board. a good clear coat over your nails also helps protect them. taking a vitamin called hair, skin and nails is great also. just what ever you do do not get acrylics!!!

Acrylic Nails are appealing, esp. when you can't grow your own!
I got arylics when I was 16 yrs. old. I am now 27 and my nails are ugly. I had to have them taken off several times for green under the nail. Hard headed me didn't learn and after I took them off and the green grew out..I put them back on.
Hair, Skin and Nail vitamins are good. I'm going to buy some at Wal-Mart and then I am going to a Sally's to treat my nails, so they will hopefully grow beautiful on there own.

Patience is the key. Upkeep is lock!
