Well, good news... you have healthy nails. When they turn translucent like that, they have plenty of moisture. I know... it's irritating as all get out.
Try this, keep a clear coat of some kind on at all times. Paint two coats if you don't wear colored polish. Paint the top of the nail and a little under the free edge too. This will help keep some of the excess moisture out of your nails keeping them a little better.
I know how it is.. mine are the same way. But I've worn acrylics for so long, I don't have that problem any more. Now the free edge stays so dried out I have to keep oiling them to keep them from pulling away from the product!
