Message: Ok, NEVER cut a callus off. That will only make it grow back thicker, and harder next time.
It's going to take time to get rid of them, just like it took time to build them up.
What you need is an exfoliating scrub. Go to your local drug store (like Eckerds or Walgreens) and look in the cosmetics section for a sugar or salt scrub. Use it EVERY day. You want one with NO mineral oil. Now, Trade Secret (usually in malls) sometimes carries stuff like that too.
Or you can make your own scrub... use raw sugar or sea salt (I prefer sea salt). Add a base oil, like soybean oil (doesn't leave you greasy feeling). Then add some almond, and jojoba oils. If you can find it, use some rice bran oil too. DON'T use mineral oil(baby oil) at all.
Mix it all together to a consistancy you like--I prefer to make mine to where the oils don't pool to the top.
Just scrub your hands with it, concentrating on the rough spots (over the sink!). Use it every day--more than once a day until you get it under control again.
Good luck, and let me know how you do with it!

Message: I'm afraid I have been a nail biter since I was younger. I think I have now developed calluses on the skin around the nails. Can I get rid of these?

Message: Hi there ,I have tried a callus remover from Sally's.I used to get bad callus on the heel and below my big toe (before the arch begins) before soaking my feet in a pedibath I pour a dab on the footfile and scrub my callus ,then after soaking my feet and after sloughing cream I use a little moreand soak again.I have done this a winter and my feet are soft again.I also did this for my instructor who had it very bad,she is always on her feet during the day as a nurse, but it helped her as well. Take the remover and file in the shower too and use it there too.Let me know if this works!!;) I use this at school for all my clients.

Message: the reason i ask if you are still bitting is, there are a lot of germs in our mouth and if you try and "remove" the callus then you are in danger of introducing germs and infection into your nails. not a good thing.
