Message: Hi, I used to do the same thing, and I found that by finding a picture of someone that had nice hands and the kind of nails I would like to have, I clipped it out of a magazine and left it on my bathroom sink, and that was my goal. Also, when you get the urge to pick at them, get a nail stick (any grocery store has them in the cosmetics aisle) and push the cuticles back and clean under the nail instead. Then you will start to see a difference. It's encouraging to finally see growth. There is also a white polishing block that buffs the nails to a shine and gets rid of any ridges in the nails and then get a cuticle trimmer stick which you glide around the nail and it cleans it away. Set a date for your goal and start off the year with a set of new nails! Stay away from the acrylics as I learned the hard way, by developing an allergy to the cheap chemicals that the salons used. I can't even wear any nail polishes now, as I am that sensitive.
Good Luck!

Message: I was terrible at doing this.... never a biter, always a picker. I find these days that my desire for nice strong nails means that I tend to pick less, but I find that I have a problem with 'peeling' nails every so often, and I just can't resist picking at a little tiny split that occurs between layers, which then sets off a chain reaction, and the whole 'white' bit then comes off..... Old habits die hard, eh?
