Subject: line on nail
Message: hi i was wondering if anybody else has this on my right index finger i developed a tan line going straight down my nail when i was pregnant with my daughter 6 years ago. i never thought anything of it until i read about melanoma under the nail recently. i have showed this line to my doctor and a dermatologist. my doctor said that it was just a pigmentation and the dermatologist pretty much said the same thing the only thing she did differently was take a picture of it and measured it and told me to come back in a year so that she couls look at it again. should i still be worried thats its cancer? does anybody else have this?
thanks

Message: Christina,
Since you have been to both your regular physician and a dermatologist, I would be inclined to relax and go with their information. But if your instinct still has you questioning, you may wist to get another opinion outside your usual area.

Message: Christina, I thought I was crazy and seeing things. I have a line on my right ring finger and seem to be getting one on my left hand now also. Didn't know about the cancer thing so I'm a bit concerned because it's Friday night in NJ and I'm not about to call my GP. Plan to make a few calls on Monday but what is the cancer connection?

Message: I've been a nail tech for a few years and if your doctors said it nothing to worry about then it proberly fine i see some women with the same problem it can be caused by trauma to the nail sometimes it can be easily done without realising it. Also it is common in people that are dark skinned, they can get nail streaks that are completely benign.
But just keep your eye on it if it changes colour, or widens go back to your doctor immediately.
