Subject: cracked finger nail
Message: I have a cracked (vertical) finger nail on my middle finger. It runs on my nail bed from the cuticle to the end, cracking when it gets past the nail bed. Any suggestions?

Message: Trisha-
Is it a ridge that runs the length of the nail then cracks when it reaches the end? If so, my pinky does that too and I haven't been able to figure out what to do about it. Wish I had more information.

Message: any chance, either of you, the nail could have sustained an injury at some point? the fact that it only happens on one nail and not more makes me believe it's isolated. since it's a crack, i would treat it with vitamin e oil and a bandaid around it at night to keep the oil in and invest in some of the nail growth formula from this site, for everyday use at keeping the moisture locked into the nails at the correct balanced levels.

Message: I sympathise. I have a cracked nail also. Crack isn't a ridge but tends to start splitting into two once not too far past the nailbed and therefore it easily catches and rips. I've been using the ngf for some time now and have regrown the nail several times over I'm sure, but the weakness of the crack seems to persist. Bottom line though, when there is damage to the matrix it doesn't always repair. I have no real idea of what caused the original crack/split. I can only assume it had something to do with careless removal of acrylics in the past.
I've thought about this a bit recently and wonder whether there is some way to reinforce the white tip once its grown past the nail bed. Maybe someone will come up with a solution.
