 Subject: Update on Jill and her DaddyMessage: I got this e-mail from Jill - ========== I keep meaning to email you. I can't remember where we left off. My dad did test positive for Lyme and became very symptomatic despite getting him on antibiotics reasonably early. The good news is that these last three days he has shown improvement. At the beginning, he slept constantly (not like him, he is very type A energetic), as well as had all kinds of scary Lyme symptoms. He still naps a lot, and still isn't driving (my poor mom doesn't drive that much because she has so much pain from various ailments, but has been forced to drive) but is not as shaky, has periods of having his sense of humor back, etc. But at least there is improvement - finally. Of course, he cannot go off antibiotics until a couple of months after symptoms are gone, and then he will always have to be aware that he can relapse and need to go back on antibiotics. But at least the direction is toward improvement. I'm still battling the local doctors on my dad's behalf but we don't expect any cooperation. I did finally get him an appointment with the only Lyme doctor in San Diego - based on weeks of begging her. So that's mid-September. I've asked to be on her waiting list because it's too hard for me to keep going to northern California. But she runs a low-income clinic in addition to her Lyme clinic and is always on the brink of bankruptcy, so it's risky to get involved - there are so few Lyme doctors and I don't want to get in with someone who will drop patients. But I'd like to see her for a second opinion because my case is so complex. I've been battling the San Diego Dept. of Health for two days. My dad's case was reported to them but mine never was so I tried to report myself. And it literally took two days, with no one wanting to take my case. Finally I found the epidemiologist who took my dad's report and she took mine. But they won't send notices to anyone in my area about the risk of Lyme Disease being here. They say it's a privacy issue and they don't want to cause a panic! They'd rather let people get sick. So I said they should contact vector control to go test the ticks in my area, and they said, oh that's a good idea. So the vector guy called me and said he would add my area to the list, but they never find Lyme ticks. Basically I will have to go to the media myself to help protect people but I'm too sick and my dad's too sick so I can't push it right now. ===== Jill is a very sweet and caring person and I am asking again for your prayers in her behalf and that of her father. She's been such an angel, such a support for me during my difficult times and I wish I could do more for her... please remember them both, and her mother. Thank you! |

Last April my son in law had DBS surgery (deep brain stimulation) for Parkinson's. James was only the third person to have this surgery in our area. I e-mailed all our local TV stations, e-mailed the news paper with a immediate news release information, contacted the local chapter for Parkinson's and the hospital PR department. Make sure to include contacts, phone numbers and responses with your correspondence. Maybe someone on behalf of Jill and her Dad could facilitate the contact. Insist and persist. It's hard for me to comprehend how people out in CA don't want to even admit that Lyme's disease exists. Here in NJ all you have to say is you want to be tested for Lymes because you think you were exposed. I feel so sorry for Jill. Looks like she's got a big battle on her hands. I only pray the best for you, Jill. |
