Subject: hydration
Message: Barbara, I'm hoping you can answer this for me. I purchased the NGF in June. I used it just once a day or every other day because my nails were already in great condition. I just needed something to help through the winter and with my dry cuticles. I decided to start using it twice daily like you recommend for one month. I have noticed my nails have started breaking unlike normal. Do you think I am using it too much since they are already in pretty good condition? I would appreciate any input you can give me and even from anyone else. Thanks.

Message: Hi Amanda,
I don't have the foggiest notion as to why your nails would be breaking like that.....Just cut back to your usual routine. May be that you are already pretty well balanced with your moisture. If that is the case you will surely just need to use it on the cuticles to keep that tissue supple. If someone else has this problem or has any insight into what and why, may be they will give us the benefit of their intellect.... Sorry Amanda, I just really do NOT know.

Message: amanda,
any chance your hands are in water a lot and are your nails fairly long? just trying to rule out reasons why they might be doing this.

Message: Cheryl, other than taking a shower and washing my hands they are not in water. I wear gloves when I do dishes and clean. My nails aren't any longer than they normally are and I didn't have this problem until I started with the NGF. I do try to keep my hands out of water as much as possible. thanks.

Message: amanda,
ok. thanks for responding. when you say they break, do they break as in brittle, or tear as in rip at the point where the white hangs off the fingertip? sorry so many silly questions.

Message: Some break and some tear. No problem. I'm just trying to figure out if I am using it too much and that is what is causing it. I love the product just trying to find my happy medium and looking for some advice. Thanks.

Message: Amanda, this happened to me when I first started using NGF. I almost gave up - but now am so glad that I didn't. Though I cannot explain the breakage - maybe my nails were just getting used the product and it was the "old nail" breaking away, if that makes sense. I have been using NGF for almost a year now and I now go for long periods of time with no breakage at all. In fact, as I look down at my nails right now, I can't remember the last time that one broke. I do keep them at a reasonable length or I try to. Sometimes I look down and think, wow - how did they get so long. Keep it up and when the entire nail is new and conditioned with NGF the breakage will stop and your nails will be beautiful.

Message: amanda - I'd consider cutting back to once daily. Also, use gentle strokes massaging it in. I found that I was pressing too hard at first while rubbing. That would cause the nail to bend (because it was more flexible) and I'd get those low splits.
