Subject: French look pedicures
Message: I really don't want to get a professional pedicure because frankly I'm not comfortable trusting a salon anymore after my acrylics affair. But something I loved was the french look toes. I had that done once. To do it naturally, can anyone guide me to how long the toe nails should actually be? I've always kept them way too short but now they are healthy and look good but I want to know if theres a guideline. Also whats the easiest way to do the white tips on toes? My hands seem to shake a bit. Any tips greatfully received.

Message: helen,
toes are very easy to do because it doesn't matter if your right or left handed! reputable salons will just polish them for you, if that's all you want done. i just like a little bit of white on mine. something about that huge, wide painted on white strip just screams fake to me, but that's just me. you could try the adhesive strips that come in the kits. just be sure the white is very dry before peeling them off. one good thing about the toes, is, is you mess them up they are way down there and it won't drive you crazy! in all honesty helen, i really would consider going to a salon and having them painted. that way, they are all uniform and your done with it. i wouldn't think it would cost very much for just having them painted. do all the filing, buffing and prep work at home, then explain you just want a french on your toes.

Message: I think those French pedicures are pretty easy to do. It also doesn't drive me up a wall if I make a few mistakes because they aren't very noticeable. I use those Nailene Perfect Pedicure tip guides, which you can find in most Walmart stores, and OPI Alpine Snow and Sweet Heart polishes for french pedicures. Overall, they make a nice-looking result on my toes. And it's cheaper than going to a salon. In fact, since I've heard a lot of scary news reports about salons, I'm staying out of them.

Message: Helen - long toenails sort of gross me out. lol I think the French look great with your big toe just a teensy bit longer than the rest and a wider strip of white. I do a thin line on the rest and have bought a permanent white marker (SO easy) for this. I apply a ridge filler, do the white, then a coat of sheer pink, then a topcoat. Last one lasted me 3 weeks and still looked good.
