Message: YOu have seriously bruised your nailbed. You need to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible. There are methods of releasing the pressure that they can do to help save your nail. Don't waste any time to get in-- and ice your finger to keep it from throbbing.
Good luck--

Message: travis - as MaryLu has said you may have bruised your nailbed. More commonly, though, it it the trapped blood underneath that causes the discoloration. If you are throbbing, that can be relieved by them drilling a small hole in the nail to release the blood. If you aren't throbbing, you're probably just fine and it's a matter of letting it fall off and suffering through your Goth thumb a couple weeks. Listen, if that nail starts lifting (which it will eventually), trim it back but don't take if off your self. Wear one of those flesh colored fabric bandaids that stretch so you can prevent it from snagging on things. The good news is - you are young and your nails probably grow in at least twice as fast as mine.
