Subject: Advise on Split Nail
Message:
Hi
Just wondering if anyone has some good advice?
I trapped my finger in the car door today, when i got it out I had blood pouring everwhere frm the nail in the car park!!!
My nail is still attached to my finger, but there is a horizontal spilit 3/4 of the way down, if you push the tip of the nail down, you just get mor blood!
The nurse has deressed it and said, they cant take the top bit of, because it still eventually join together again and its a good protection having the nail still - so I dont get any infections!!!
Has this happened to anyone...how long does it take to heal?

Message: ally,
i can't see that it will join back together again, but it is good protection for the nail bed to leave it on for now. just keep it clean with hydrogen peroxide and in a few days, once the bleeding has subsided, take the dressing off and let it breathe. it needs air and a chance to dry out and doesn't need to be kept moist all the time. in a week or so, when it's not so sensitive, start massaging cuticle oil into the split so the growing part of the nail will stay supple. it's going to take some time to heal and grow out. maybe months, so have patience. any more concerns, let us know.

Message: Thank you so much for the advice.
At the moment its really painful as the alot of the finger has bruised severely. As soon as this goes down, I'll massage some oil over it.
Thanks again!
