Subject: Moi - Dog Grooming Story

I would have been even more upset in your case than I was with Remy's short hair. Wow, poor puppy!!! This is really a sad story, and it shows how sometimes you can't trust the people you leave your pets with. It's a shame too. I bet your puppy nipped the groomer!!

We actually are still working through the summer. The little buggers started sluffing off in May and so I made them keep working.

This past week has been hellatious. Lemme tell you my doctor experiences as of late.

Almost 2 weeks ago, Evan started complaining of an earache. Well, we deal with swimmers ear almost every summer. My doctor was out of town on vacation for the week so I had my hubby take him to urgent care, along with instructions that he not come home without an oral antibiotic - drops DO NOT WORK on him. So he comes home with ear drops. Not just any ear drops. $117.00 dollar ear drops. Well, 3 days later his ear is still hurting and so swollen the drops won't go in. So back to urgent care with yet another instruction not to leave there without Z-pac or Augmenton as those are the ONLY things that work on his swimmers ear infections. So, home comes hubby with ANOTHER kind of drops and Bactrim. Bactrim is NOT for swimmers ear infections. Anyway, so I call the dr. office to see if I can get him in to see our doctors partner, but no, he's booked solid. So, we start him on Bactrim and another ear drops. Finally, Tuesday night he hit a temp of 103.9 so I called my dr. office to talk to the on call dr. and it turned out our dr. was back. When I told him what urgent care had prescribed he was ticked off. I told him I have no faith in them anymore and he said that he doesn't either. So, he went ahead and phoned in Augmenton for us. By the next day, the fever was gone and his ear wasn't hurting as bad but by yesterday he had developed a rash on his feet and wrists that started working it's way up to his groin. Anyway... I call the dr. office this morning and they got him right in. The Augmenton was working, but it also caused the rash. So, we were given yet another antibiotic. ARAHAHARRGGHHHHH
We have dropped over $200 this past week just trying to get his poor ear taken care of. And that's just in Co-pays for doctors and presciptions and those ear drops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, aren't you glad you asked??? LOL
(Thanks for listening)

Eeeek - Moi! What a nightmare with the ears! After that experience, what I would do is INSIST that my internist write a prescription (that WORKS) to have on hand in case he develops the ear problems on weekends. By now, Evan's doctor has to know this has been a recurrent problem and you are wise enough to figure out what it is and when he needs treatment. I'm glad you wasted no time with the reaction to the Augmentin. Poor kid. My daughter had swimmer's ear issues and it's very painful to boot! I also read your dog grooming story. How awful! Makes me glad I have a good groomer.

Karen - I read about Remy's shave. I have to tell you that I have a longhaired pooch - a lhasa poo. Alot of people like their hair longer, but my dog doesn't like it! I think she gets hot flashes like mommy. lol So, when I go to the groomer, I have her taken down to 1/4 inch in Summer. She's so frisky and happy afterwards. OK, so they look a little ugly for a week, but it grows in so fast and I like my money's worth. Bet you can see his hair growing by the day.

Moi, I just read this. I'm sorry about your son, and I'm glad you finally got the antibiotic, and I can sympathize completely. I can't use Z-Pac. When I get it, I take it and 10 days later I'm back in and twice as bad as I was in the beginning with a higher white cell count. I tell them I can't take Z-pac, it doesn't work, and yet they still give it to me. It's so annoying, but I have a co-pay that's not as high as yours though. I wish they would just listen in the first place. It's so frustrating, and I'm so glad your son is better, rash and all. The rash could have been a combination of the drugs too.

Lynnie, Remy was so embarrassed, he kept going in to his crate all the time, and just acted differently. It's growing back, and you are right about that, butI wanted it trimmed back to shorter, but it wasn't even a 1/4 of an inch, and his skin showed through in places, and it wasn't a nice even shave. It was hairless in some spots, and he looked horrible. He's much better now, and I know it's going to grow, so I'm better. Thanks for your information and concern. I appreciate the input from dog people.

Karen

Karen - Well, I hope now that Remy's a good 1/4 of an inch that the friskies have set in. That's funny that he was "embarrassed". I once had a longhaired cat that needed to be shaved down from mats - she was a stray. She looked like a lion afterwards becausee they don't do the head and tail. After a day of embarrassment, she was totally hyper and happy!

Remy is much better now, but he really was embarrasssed about his cut. He doesn't like us to laugh at him, but his new cut did not invoke any laughter! I was in shock when he came home, and I was really saddend by his appearance.

He is such a sweet doggie, and I'm so glad he is in our lives. I'm thinking of getting a second one in October. His "parents" just had another litter, and I think he needs a sibling with him. Maybe I was on the Ark because I believe in 2 animals of each kind! LOL!!!
