Subject: A cool French Manicure tip!
Message: Hi All! I know I haven't been here much, but Summer is keeping me busier away from the computer, mainly carting my son to and fro. But I've missed you all.
I HAD to pass this one on here, a little tip from the Q boards. I like to do a French Manicure on toenails. Anyone who has done this knows it can be tricky. I usually end up having to get out a Qtip afterwards to clean up all the sloppy white on the toes. Plus, you want that line thin on those small nails. Well, get yourself a fine Pentel permanent white marker. (Got mine at Staples.) You use a base coat of polish or primer, then do your line with the pen and cover with a top coat of your favorite sheer pink or whatever. This is soooooo easy! Plus, a permanent white marker is nothing more than white enamel. You could do this for fingers, but I haven't tried it yet. I find I still prefer to go natural and only indulge in polish for special occasions, thanks to my NGF.
Barbara, I will probably be needing to refill in a few weeks. Still love it and my consistently GREAT nails. Thank you!

Message: Hi Lynnie,
Sorry you have been so tied down, or untied! lol
I would imagine that being out and about is a much better state of affairs since it IS summertime, and we have all winter to be house bound!
That is a great tip...no pun intended! I don't even go look on Q any more, I guess I should so that I will have some interesting things to share here. It is really a great place for those types of tips and hints.
I will get you out an order today! Just the formula right? It's on the way.

Message: Barbara - leave it to you to get on this so quickly! I just finished doing my end of the deal. Just the large formula. OK, so I have a good 1/3 of a jar left, but there are some products I definitely DON'T want to run out of or even cut it close. NGF is on the top of that list because I feel the difference in only a few days when I'm not using it. Ie., went away for a long weekend a couple weeks ago and polished my nails. Well, between the polish and using the hotel's pool, it only took a few days for the brittles to start. I'd have been much better off toting my jar of NGF. Fortunately, it restores them in a couple days. This Summer it has saved me from "gardening nails".
Yeah, I still play around on the Q boards, but I promise to pass on any good nail tips here.

Message: Lynnie, that was a pretty good tip. One time, I had a french tip kit by Sally Hansen that had a pen sort of like a paint pen that held the white tip polish. This kit is still available in Wal-Mart and in many drugstores in my area. Sadly, I didn't have good luck with the pen because the white polish would run out of it, creating a mess. The polish inside it seemed almost identical to Wite-Out, and it dried up really fast. For french tips, I use OPI's Alpine Snow with good results. But I'll be on the lookout for a white permanent marker.

Message: I still haven't been able to do a French. Some time ago Melissa (HBG) said she'd send me replacement brushes if I emailed her my address and info. I did it that same day but never heard back. Maybe she's very busy?

Message: Jessica - I think QVC also sells one of those kits with the pen and people complain that it is as messy as the Sally Hansen. Sort of defeats the purpose, huh?!
Moi - Gee, don't know about Melissa. She buzzed in here quickly not long ago. You really should try the pen thing, though. I originally bought my marker to label the tops of my Bare Minerals jars so I didn't have to turn them upside down. I also pulled it out to label some darker binders my son bought for school. The darndest things come in handy!

Message: Lynnie, QVC sells one of those kits. It's called Manicure Magic, and it seemed pretty expensive, so I didn't buy it. Sephora, an overpriced makeup store where I live, sells those pens also. I guess those kits really defeat the purpose of having perfect french tips. So I use OPI's Two Tones Kit, and it's pretty good.

Message: Jessica - Yep, I have ready horrible reviews of the Manicure Magic. That's why I loved the marker pen alternative when it comes to being precise on the toes. Five days later here, my toes still look great, so it seems to hold up just as well. It's a fun, clean Summer look.
Agree about OPI's polishes in general. I think they are the best. Lucky you, a Sephora in your city! Whenever I go to Toronto or any big city, I have to make a stop there. It's nice to actually SEE and try so many products, even if you don't buy them there. I tell my boyfriend I'd like a Tshirt that says "I brake for Sephora" on the back. lol

Message: Actually, there are two Sephora stores close to my hometown. About 1 or 2 years ago, a new Sephora store was built in one of my local malls. I first went there in 2001 when I was in Dallas, which is in Texas, my home state. Now I'm glad they have one in Hurst, and that town is close to Ft. Worth. I never buy anything from the store, but my sister who lives in North Dakota sent me a few of their products. About OPI polishes, they are great. They cost $7.50 a bottle in stores like Ulta and Trade Secret, but they're worth every penny.
