Subject: Air bubbles
Message: I do a french manicure on myself every Sunday night, and lately I've noticed what appears to be tiny air bubbles under my top coat. I use good quality products, mostly Jessica brand. Anyone have an idea about what is happening. It's driving me crazy!!

Message: Patricia,
Air bubbles can be caused by insufficient drying time between coats. If polish doesn't dry thoroughly in between coats, solvents can push up through the top coat, forming tiny bubbles. Bubbles can also occur if polish is applied too thick. The solvents won't evaporate as quickly as they should and they will be trapped under the next coat, forming bubbles as they try to escape. Also, you may want to check the age of your polish; old polish will thicken and can cause bubbling. Polish thinners are available, but I think a new bottle is best. You may also want to try rolling the bottle on a table or in between your palms instead of shaking and applying very thin coats. Finally, any influence that causes polish to dry unevenly (like high humidity, low room temperature, or hot sun) can cause air bubbles. Hope I helped!

Message: Cheryl, thank you very much for the compliment! I love being on this website, and I've been a regular visitor since last year. About nail problems, I can usually be an expert at them since I've been doing my own since about 4th grade, and I'm now a college freshman.

Message: Jessica thank you for your thoughtful reply. I did let each coat dry thoroughly between coats, at least 20 minutes each, I don't think the coats were too thick, most of the polish was brand new, the other not too old, and I did roll, not shake as I thought that might be the problem... It's been so hot here (Northern California), the air conditioner was on so that may be the cause, but I've noticed it's been happening most of the time lately, so I don't think it's the weather. I'm at my wits end.

Message: I knew about that shaking the polish instead of rolling it and warming it between your hands can cause bubbles, but I sure didn't know about the other stuff. It all makes sense though. Thanks!!!
