Subject: Stubborn infected cuticle
Message: I saw the old thread on infected cuticles, but mine just won't go away. Most information has said that seven days max would be the treatment. I've put neosporin, soaked in warm salt water, but I've had this annoyance for more than two weeks. If I look closeley under the swolln area, I can see the nail dying underneath, even a hole where nail should be growing. There's that whitish puss still. I've heard some contradictory information on treatment, as well. Some have said to keep it dry, and some said to soak it in the warm water. Any advice? I would hate to lose my nail.

Message: kippy,
i would say you've exhausted your "over the counter" remedies. go see a doctor. two weeks is long enough. you will lose your nail, eventually.

Message: Kippy,
Cheryl is exactly right. You need to see a doctor now. Make an appointment with a dermatologist. Not a GP or such..... You don't need to wait for the nail to fall off or become terribly sore... Do let us know what you learn!
