Subject: nail bitter here. someone help!
Message: my nails have always been stubby and bitten every since i was a baby. About a 2 years ago when I got my braces they grew long and fast, they just werent very strong. I remeber i would always play with them and they were so weak that I could bend them all the way foward. anyways when I got my braces off i went back to biting. But now I decided to grow them out. But this time i want the to be strong and now break when i do a simple task such as lift something or push elevator buttons. Any ways they can be strong? Are there certain foods I can eat? by the way how fast is the normal rate for nails to grow, because I remember, my nails grew at a very fast rate, it took about 2 weeks for them to get really long. is that fast or just me?

Message: Hi Beca - well, since you are young, your nails probably grow twice as fast as mine! Same goes for hair. I saw an interesting show (maybe 20/20 this past Friday) wherein a psychologist has written a book about "soft addictions". Nail biting falls into that category because people bite when they are stressed and it is good to replace that habit with something else. Rubbing in this product, the NGF, could possible help with that.
Sure, you can have strong nails. But it won't happen overnight. You also asked about certain foods. I take a Hair, Skin and Nails supplement. What is good for nails is Biotin. You can find supplements like this in Walgreen's. I have noticed a big diffence in my nails' rate of growth and strength between rubbing in the Nail Growth Formula and taking supplements.
