Subject: Nail-Biting
Message: My name is Ellen and I'm 12. My best friend's salon birthday party is coming up in mid-July and I need to grow out nails. I want to go, but I don't want my other friends to tease me about my nails. Is there anything I can do to make my nails grow fast in a bit of time. I heard that eating bread helps them grow, is that true?

Message: Ellen,
There is nothing that you can do to make your nails magically grow over the tips of your fingers in just a couple of weeks..... But you can start to take care of them now so that they become healthy. They don't have to be "long" to be beautiful. Just healthy.
Use a soft bristle nail brush and clean them thoroughly every evening. If you have some vitamin e oil, just rub that oil into the cuticle and surface of the nails. That will help them to not be dehydrated. If you have any hand lotion with lanolin in it, then use that on your hands and rub it into the nails really well. It will balance the moisture content in the nails. Just be smart and don't go out and get those fake nails that are so popular now days. They will ruin your natural nails completely. I hope this will help a bit.
Have fun at the party!

Message: How are you doing, Ellen? The way I figure it, you have 2 weeks. That's enough time to get your nails grown up to the fingertips and smooth out your rough edges by doing all that Barbara has told you. Buy yourself either a light frosted polish or a funky dark color. Short, healthy nails are IN. I'm sure you realize this if you ever look at fashion magazines. That's why I don't get too upset if my nails start breaking and I have to file them down. I just square them off and use some fun polish. Good luck!
