Subject: Suggestions For Applying Regular Nailpolish
Message: Good Morning All! I have been experimenting with applying honeybee nailpolish, their remover, regular nailpolish and non-acetone remover. Honeybee was a no-go for me because it peeled off in a matter of 2 days and I'm having a hard time with applying regular nailpolish. I do get more weartime with it but after about 4 days I have to take the nailpolish off. The non-acetone remover is great and not drying at all! Any suggestions as to how you keep on your regular nailpolish? I'd like to get 7 days of weartime. It's getting to the point where I don't wear any nailpolish anymore because my nails look better that way. I really like polish on my nails. I think that makes them look so sophisticated. Any suggestions as I said? Please be specific as to how many coats and how you apply. BTW, I'm down to applying the NGF once a day and my nails NEVER looked better. I can't believe I've found something after 40 yrs. of searching. Is this too good to be true?

Message: Hi Hol! I'm about where you are when it comes to polish wearing off and chipping quickly. I'm finding that OPI polishes seem to be most durable on me. This week at Marshall's I spotted Barrielle Manicure Extender on the shelves for $2.99. I just polished my nails yesterday (a base coat, two coats of polish and one coat of the manicure extender.) I'll let you know if that one makes a diffference. Generally, I'm doing just NGF, but I have a wedding to attend today and wanted to match my toes.

Message: Lynnie, let me know how things pan out. Right now I just have one coat of clear nailpolish on. It seems to help strengthen my nails even a bit more. My nails at the point where I should cut them but I guess I want to see how far I can go. Hopefully they won't break before the length really bothers me.

Message: I guess in the grand scheme of things, I am pretty well blessed. I am able to wear any polish I have ever tried without any of the issues that seem to "dog" everyone else.... So I can not really offer any insight on the issue at all. I just polish, do touch ups until I am tired of that look then, remove the polish and go *nekked*!

Message: Hi All! I have a feeling the polish staying on has to do with the hydration of the nail that we have FINALLY achieved. Now that's just my opinion (lol). Would I want to go back to where my nail was screaming for moisture? NO WAY! I'll find out something sooner or later. Experimentation is just a way of life with all us ladies. Maybe I'll have to resign myself to a few days of polish looking decent but actually I think that has been a small price to pay. Lynnie, let me know if you stumble on the magic potion.

Message: The only time I was ever able to keep polish on my nails without it cracking or peeling was when I had acrylics. My nails have always been soft and flexible. But hey, the other problems with acrylics meant that wasn't a sustainable practice. I'm also at a stage now where I'm tempted to try some polishes again on my shortish healthier natural nails. What stops me is the possibility that I am undoing months of hard work with NGF. In the last week, just with normal work I have busted 4 nails. Cracked them straight across! When they broke I thought they must be really brittle but the broken bits were actually quite flexible which I'm pleased about. I think I might experiment with a couple of coats of clear or pale and see how that goes. If the NGF still gets through at the cuticle and under the tip then hopefully thats sufficient.

Message: Helen, I seem to be having good results with one coat of clear nailpolish but who wants that. I want some color. The benefits of using clear nailpolish is you basically can't see when the polish wears off. Is that really a benefit or not though? There's got to be a better way. I guess eventually we'll find that magic potion.

Message: Hol - I'm having the same results with polish just like Helen above is reporting. I don't think my nails are "liking" the rigidity from using anything that coats them. My last polish manicure lasted 4 days before I started randomly chipping off the ends of my nails. That never happens with just using NGF. So, when I want a treat, I'm only keeping polish on a few days at a time and compensating with NGF and buffing/shining in between. Again, like Helen said, it is isn't worth undoing the progress!

Message: My experimentation of growing long nails finally came to an end last night when I was cooking and a nail got in the way when I grated some nutmeg by using the microplane. Guess nails and microplaning don't get along (lol). I had to cut my nails but they're still fairly long but at least they're all the same length now. I'm considering putting colored nailpolish on tonight but I'll probably go for the single coat of clear which will last, as you said Lynnie, for about four days and isn't noticeable when it chips. I'm onto non-acetone remover now which won't undo all the NGF work I've done and it nowhere dries out my nails!
