Subject: Mineral Makeup Info
Message: Until Lynnie had told me I really never realized that alot of mineral makeup contains Bismuth Oxychloride in them..Bare Escentuals and Sheer Coverage is some to name. I have tried BE and YoungBlood and they both broke me out something terrible and made my face itch like crazy.
There is a very interesting article on SelfGrowth.com called Mineral Makeup and Bismuth Oxychloride by Lynn Starner for anyone who cares to read it.Wow it answered all my questions about why I have problems wearing mineral makeup and it was very enlightening for me.

This too is most interesting:
Bismuth Oxychloride: A white powder with a soft, silky feel, bismuth oxychloride is more temperature-stable than bismuth subcarbonate and is compatible with a wide range of resins. Particle size is typically from 2 to 12 µm; particles have a platelet structure that aligns during processing to form a smooth, shiny surface. Bismuth oxychloride is susceptible to UV degradation, and therefore requires addition of a UV stabilizer to combat this effect. Coloring properties are similar to those achieved with bismuth subcarbonate, with some grades producing a pearlescent appearance.

Message: Thanks Barbara! I could not believe in his article that he stated that Bismuth is kin to arsenic and that it is a very heavy element that is hard for most people to wear and has to be forced into the skin...hence the buffing that you are told to do with BE.It also states that it is so heavy that it does clogg pores and irratate the skin.
I have watched the Bare Escentuals presentaion may times and heard the owner say that there are no fillers,no chemicals, and good for your skin. But after reading this article it states that Bismuth is a cheap and inexpensive filler used in mineral makeup.Wow I am thinking ok they do use fillers and it does not sound like it is very good for the skin.
I cannot believe that I put this product on my face! I guess now you really do have to research what you use.

Message: I was shocked when I read this version of facts about the product..... Having to buff it in just to make it stick to your face, so it wont slide off....Man! what's that really all about? Any more, with the way so many just lie without even blinking, I tend to believe the NEA sayer before I believe the pro advertising. So I tend to trust word of mouth from those that use products much quicker than paid ads, and even the news. Because news stories are often time planted advertisements too! So I can honestly understand why people are skeptical about my product too!

Message: Barbara I feel like an idiot because I used Bare Escentuals believeing what the owner was saying about this is good for your skin and especially if you have acne or any skin problems....and like a dolt I bought into it.Then when I used it my skin broke out terrible and when I would sweat my skin would itch like crazy and I could not figure out why my skin was doing this and thought it was just my skin type...plus the money I put out for this mineral makeup. Also just a couple of weeks ago I bought the RareMinerals which has the bismuth in it and is part of the BE line and my face looks terrible....it is so broke out!
But after reading this article I can see why and I caanot believe that the owner of BE is telling all these people that it is good for your skin...yeah right I think it is good for her wallet.

Message: While I found the article intersting, I also found it interesting that she only targeted BE, after stating that she had tried MANY mineral make ups. It also is interesting that she is trying to sell her own product while telling you how bad another product is for you. There are many out there that contain Bismuth Oxychloride. I use and love BE - have for years now. The bismuth does not clog my pores or leave me itchy and with my extremely oily skin, it is the only make up that I have found that lasts all day on me. I also don't feel shiny, but I do use the Mineral Veil.
I know that there are many out there who are bothered by the bismuth, but I think there is also many on the other side of the coin. I also don't just rely on my make up to make my skin look good - I have a beauty routine that works for me. BE lasts me a long time, so cost is not an issue.
I guess that is why there are many products out there - because one product is not universal.

Message: I love BE and haven't had any problems and my poor acne prone daughter can use BE and only BE and not have a problem.
Arsinicum is a homeopathic remedy. It's used to treat many things, including asthma. It's derived from, you guessed it, arsinic. So, when used correctly, it's a good thing.
And as so many of us here know, there is no one product that is perfect for all people. Fortunately there are many out there to choose from!!
Thanks for all the information ladies. As usual I've learned something new on this board!!

Message: i do have to say, BE mineral foundation never broke me out, but just made me shiny again within a couple of hours, even with the mineral veil. i tried to stick it out a couple of years, but finally gave up. i still do use the eye shadows and blush and love those. my oily face is very tough when it comes to chemicals. all that oil has to be good for something!

Message: I have to admit to the fact that I have a blast try out the BE..... I just don't have what it takes to get into the routine of make up every morning! I jump out of bed, read my daily scripture, and jump right into the things that are necessary... One thing I have on my side though, is the fact that we work from home, so I don't really have the need to "dress!" as it were..... When we go out, my make up consists of OoO and mascara.... And even that is sometimes too much for me be bothered with.... AM I JUST LAZY OR WHAT?????
And Deb, as usual, you bring out some really valid points..... Kind of like me trying to sell my products, so I just beat the fire out of those acrylic people!{{{{{{{{{{LOL}}}}}}}}}}
