Subject: acrylic/gel/solar/natural nails

Message:
I have read all your responses. No, I have never had one of my clients in 13 years to have any kind of adverse reaction to my services, enhancements, etc. I have seen the reactons on clients who have come to me to find out what is wrong with their nails. Those are ladies who have gone to the "chop shops". They use MMA which as one lady stated you should be informed about and be aware of. I will not take a client younger than 17 years old because I know the adverse effects that the acrylics can cause. Besides the fact that their young bodies are so full of changing hormones that the acrylics are not going adhere and their moms have wasted time and money. So, it is not all about the $s. For me anyway. I love what I do. I do offer natural nail services and have recommended plenty of times that a client not get enhancements for one reason or another. I hate that there are those other kind of techs out there that give the good ones a bad name. That is why I chose to speak out. I have taken classes on the health of the natural nail so that I can offer good services and advice for both. As for your husbands power tool, the dremmels are banned from use in GA. I personaly have never used one. They are scary and a power tool should never be used on the nail. For 10 of my 13 years, I did everything totally by hand. It took me longer, but that is how I built my clientele. Than about 3 years ago, I took a class on how to properly use an electric file. Yes, they are commonly called "drills", but are not really. They are made specifically for nails and are not near as powerful. Yes, I still have those clients that started with me when I didn't use it and none have complained about it. If you are thinking of enhancements, you totally need to be informed. I will be happy to answer anyone's questions on any subject related to nails. My email address is idonls@hotmail.com

idonis,
barbara has kindly provided and allowed us a place to come and talk about growing and maintaining our own natural nails, and at times, many other relevant topics. way, way, way, too many of us have had horrible experiences with acrylics and have wasted so much money in the process. i did not patronize a "chop shop", but tried recommended nail salons and still ended up with destroyed nail beds and inflammed cuticles. just how many should i have gone too? you even say you realize there are "adverse effects" when it comes to acrylics. you know they are not good for the health of the nail bed. you're not going to convince me that it's not about the money. you have a returning customer base every 2 weeks for fills. i'll make this really plain and simple. absolutely, postively none of us are even remotely considering acrylics. we will try and disuade anyone who comes here from getting them and we will try and help those who wish to remove them, or are having adverse reactions to them, because we have been there and done it and it was painful in so many ways. i'm sure you're a thoughtful, kind tech, but we don't need or want your advice here about the "virtues" of acrylics.

Last I heard the dremmels have been banned here in CA for years, but the cattle call shops use them anyway. People DO need to be informed about how these fly by night shops open and close at a moments notice because they are not following regulations and they are doing everything they can to save time and make a buck, even at their customers expense.

I do nails! Please, would you do us the courtesy of a name. It is difficult, at best, to "chat" with someone that will not at least identify themselves. It's like a shadow wanting to talk about a night of the new moon.
I am not trying to be weird, of hard to deal with, or use scare tactics to sell the Natural Nails products. I AM giving voice to those who are tired of being lied to by an industry that is harmful. Oh, there are enough nice people, that are genuinely concerned, that have themselves been lied to.... It's like false religions.... They honestly believe their lies because that is what they were told and they will hear nothing else...
Well to me, that industry is as a false religion. Full of half truths, and out right lies. Even the nice persons involved are leading their "flock" off into destruction! Sorry, if that offends you, but that is what I have learned from my many years being on this old planet. People will not make necessary changes because it takes work, or because they are comfortable with the status quo. Sometimes being inconvenienced is the only way to make healthy changes.

Where I live in NJ when you mention to people what town you're from there is the reaction of "oh there" under their breath. Or "you know those people go all the way with everything." In our society today those long acrylic nails are associated with "prestige" so it will be a while before these people wake up and the entire nail industry is banned totally. I'm from the older part of my town so not all of us are la-de-dah but try talking to someone to change their opinion about you. It's like talking to a brick wall! Get my drift?

Cheryl, Barbara, etc. I found your site by chance by typing in "Solar Nails" on my Google bar. I started reading questions and found plenty wanting to know the difference in solar/acrylic/gel nails. It was not my intention to bash in any way natural nails. I am completely for natural nails. I will not return to your site for the simple fact that even though I was only trying to answer questions that I found here, there have been a couple of people who have let me know that my opinions are not welcome ones. Please accept my apology for intruding on your very closed minded discussions.
Sincerely, Joy Howard, Macon, GA

I agree completely with the group :) I have had acrylic nails in the past and it was a big mistake! I've had natural nails for a while, but found they were more prone to breakage and the nail polish from a manicure would only last for say max. 5 days. So, over the past year, I've been getting gel overlays. It's the best thing ever since the place I go does NOT use a drill! They file my nails by hand and my nails/cuticles have never been better!

This is an open forum, and you said what you wanted to, and we disagreed. Sounds open enough for me. Maybe it's just that you want us to buy into everything you're selling. Not gonna happen on this forum.

Vanessa,
I hate to be a party pooh, but the truth about it is that the gels or any product that adheres to the surface of nails and dries, dries out the nails! So says the Mayo Clinic... Sorry to disappoint! The best thing you can do is remove all topical treatments and allow you own nails to recuperate. Besides, how do you know what you have under there. They could be in great shape, or they could be as weak as water by now.... I hope they are fine. But please consider the natural alternative. For health reasons.
It really stands to reason that if the medical industry is issuing orders to have all health care workers, ie nurses etc., remove the topical treatments, (all types,) then they really are a serious threat with regards to bacterial and fungal infection.... Just something to consider in the grand scheme of thing!
