Subject: Time Out For A Little Boasting
Message: I am just such a proud mommy! My son Evan got his Scholarship Merit Badge in Scouting on Wed night and my daughter Megan was nominated to be in Who's Who for American High School Students Sports Edition. She was nominated by the US Bowling Congress. And what also makes me so happy about it is that homeschooled kids are finally starting to get the recognition they deserve!! YEAH!!!!

Message: Brag away my friend. Children are all too often NOT applauded when it is deserved. They are only put down when they misbehave. The more affection and affirmation they receive in youth, the more upright, strong adults they will become.... I am glad you bragged to us! Keep up the great work Mum!

Message: I wouldn't worry about bragging about your kids at all, Moi. I've bragged to my friends alot of times about how good our kids are. The most important thing is that they are not into drugs/alcohol and they are for the most good kids. Now I won't mention that my younger one got in an accident with my new car to the tune of $8,000. Actually though I'd take that anyday over having them into drugs/alcohol. As for the older one just combating the depression thing I take my hat off to him. He was ready to throw in the towel many times but luckily I was able to talk him out of it. Who thought he'd be where he is in college now? He gets great grades and takes his studies seriously! What more could I ask for.

Message: Hol, between alcohol, drugs, gangs, peer pressure and depression, any parent should feel blessed if their kids make it though high school alive. I know a lady, a very sweet lady, whose son got involved in drugs and tried and tried to get clean, but in the end he killed himself. What is allowed in the schools these days, and the media hype to be cool, to fit in, to be a certain way.... it's all contributing to the demise of our children and destruction of our families.

Message: Moi you are so right with everything you mentioned. I find where I live the schools are ridicuously stressful for the kids. Not like when we were kids. They give them so much "homework" and expect them to do it that I can't wait for my younger son to get out of the school. One more year to go and then I'm finished and just have to pay school taxes even though I have no kids going to school anymore. That's another one of my pet peeves but we won't even go there. The school did me no favors with my older son and his depression and I'm not afraid to state my feelings to whomever asks. Thank god he's out though.

Message: The thing that had me begin thinking about homeschooling in the first place was during Evan's 4th grade year. He started brining home so much homework that some night's he was up until 11 or 12 doing it. Some nights he sat and cried out of frustration. My hubby went to an open house at the school about a month after the year had started and found that there were 38 kids in his class and they were expecting 2 more. The teacher stressed how much homework would be a huge part of their year and it was important to stay on top of it. I started doing some research online and asking around about homeschooling. I discovered that only 4 hours a day is required 'education' in the public schools. Heck, I was doing that in my home everyday. That's when I decided I was done with the public schools. I have gained such a deep respect for most PS teachers. How they do what they do with their hands tied the way they are is beyond me. My kids learn more and they learn it faster. They have relaxed so much and are not afraid to ask questions when they don't understand something. In the PS's Evan wouldn't ask a question because everyone laughed at him. How is he, or any kid for that matter, to be expected to learn?? So I'm another "don't get me started" parent.
