Subject: microdermx/lynnie (continued)
Message: Well the scars i want to fade are facial acne scars and are old and have had much sun exposure so I dont know if mederma will do anything...i thought it worked well when the scars were new. as far as the professional and at home dermabrasion you say theres is not much difference except cost... does anyone know how dermabrasion compares to the laser scar removal?

Message: You are probably right about Mederma being useless for acne scarring. Because you have hyperpigmentation, my suggestion would be to find yourself a good cosmetic dermatologist. (I see one.) They offer a variety of ways you might treat this type of scarring, from moderate to more radical. I first started seeing my doctor last Fall for some sun damage and some raised solar keratoses. He sprays me with liquid nitrogen, which freezes irregularities and causes a subtle peeling. He has done the same for my daughter who has some acne scarring and that brings them up a couple shades. A derm may recommend you use a 4% Hydroquinone lotion which will fade them as well. There are other things to consider like peels or lasers, which would be more aggressive. You might even consider using Renova or Retin-a. If you still have active acne, you might receive some good recommendations there as well. Don't bother wasting your time or money in spas. Do yourself a favor and see an MD. If, by any chance you have any moles you wish checked while you are at it, ask your internist for a referral. That way, maybe your initial visit may be covered by insurance. Also - get yourself a good SPF this Summer. If I don't protect myself, just one afternoon in the sun seems to bring back all the spots that I've worked on all Winter.
