Well, the "IT" factor finally happened. Almost 4 months to the day I began NGF I finally have repaired all acrylic damage and have beautiful cuticles and strong healthly nails. Many heartfelt thanks. Just wanted to know about getting a manicure for special occasions. I have ordered the Honeybee gardens clear polish and remover and expect it any day but for special occasions, is is okay to get a real manicure just to have them look uniform and that "finished" look? Do you not let them touch the cuticles? Still using the NGF most days but I was religious for four months and it was soooo worth it. I don't want to ruin a good thing. Hope all is well with you and I will wait to hear from you. Many thanks again. You are, and continue to be the best!!

Hi Debbie!

I'm not Barb, but that has never stopped me from throwing in my 2cents worth, so here goes -

In my opinion, you should be able to go for a professional manicure, but you do need to set the rules. No cutting the cuticle, no buffing the bed, and I would even discourage them from using their cuticle oil on the nails. Take your own products with you and ask them to use what you already know works. Here's a little story -

I used a few products before finding NGF but stopped using them because NGF worked great. A few months ago, I found a small amount of my ProStrong kit left over and decided rather than throw it out, I would use it. Bad idea... my nails chipped and started peeling right away. I'm sure that must have been from the flouride treatment in the kit because my poor nails seemed horribly dry afterwards. I also used the cuticle treatment from the kit and the weirdest thing happened... the cuticle lifted away from my nail and dried out. I had to cut back the cuticles and that was no fun!

So, I would just recommend that since you know what works, as them to use NGF and step away from the cuticles!

Moi,
As always your two cents is worth a lot more than that! You are exactly right.
Debbie,
The manicure will be a nice treat, but for sure, take your own implements and do NOT let ANYONE cut your cuticles or apply anything extra to them.....May be just a nice moisturizer and massage for those puppies would be in order. But you can absolutely relax and enjoy the healthy nails you worked so hard to achieve...

Moi, thanks for the little story. I pitched all my ProStrong (including all the nailpolishes which were costly) products but I don't regret it AT ALL!

Moi, I did the same thing you did. I love the results with this product except I have never been able to get away with using polish. I do limit it and use non-acetone remover. My husband likes my nails painted. Go figure. I also used some left over prostrong and had it on my nails for only 5 days and holy cow I have 2 pointer fingers that are peeling and 1 thumb nail that cracked on the side which I have fixed with the buffing cream and the buffer and lots of the ngf without having to lose the length. Needless to say I pitched every prostrong product I had. My cuticles are a different story. Barbara you probably remember me but I still am clipping the cuticles because they get so much built up and they stick up and are ragged but my nails have been very long I even sometimes get them caught in the keyboard. Any advice on my cuticles would be great. I push them back with my finger using the ngf 2 per day but eventually I have to just clip the ragged part only. Also my fingernail file the wetstone broke on me can we purchase just the files I still have alot of ngf and buffing cream to go through before I order again. I tried Walmart and a beauty supply house in our area but they don't carry any kind of file that you can wet. Also can I ask what brand of polish is the best if your husband insists you paint your nails. I have some stuff called revival nail from Sally's that is toulone and formaldihyde free but it's just clear is that ok to use? What if I want a color? Thank you so much for any advice. How do you seal a peel in the nail without losing length? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks again!

Kristy,
I use the Honeybee Gardens Polishes. I personally adore them. But you can use what ever you prefer. My favorite outside the HBG brand is a Mocha by LOreal! Been using that one for probably 25 years or so. I just don't use acetone based removers when I use those products. And I don't do it often enough for it to really make a difference.....
Try rubbing in some vitamin e oil. Or any favorite moisturizing lotion or creams that you just enjoy. The biggest thing about cutting the cuticle is the risk of infections. And they get harder and harder from cutting them so you're contributing to the vicious cycle with cutting them still! Try the vitamin e oil and see what happens.... Send me your information and I will get you another file.... Be careful they shatter if dropped!

You're right, Barb. They DO shatter when dropped or when eaten by your parrot ;) I tried to tell her the point was to buff, not chew... but you know parrots!!!

Hi there,
Thanks for asking about Cory. She's lost a lot of weight and the vet said it's that time of year anyway when new feathers are coming in and she's losing the old ones. That creates a lot of stress on them and they lose weight anyway. But in her condition she can't afford to lose weight.
We are 'fattening' her back up, letting her have fruit, nuts, eggs, chicken, even baked potatos. From her perch in the other room she can see to the dining table and when we are eating she hollers til we bring something for her to eat (she has a bowl full of seeds at all times). BUT if we are eating baked potato she hollers only so long then she climbs off her perch and comes to the table to get her fair share! LOL
She's such a sweetie. Thanks again for thinking of her!
