Subject: how long is too long
Message: ive been using NGF even though before using it i was able to grow my nails out they do seem stronger and less prone to cracks and stuff... right now they are probably a bit longer than the average length of when poeple get acrylics. theyre in great shape and dont seem to be breaking anytime soon although when i do certain things like when im getting out of the shower (although the nails are more weak and bendable) and im handling the towel and drying off i can feel the strain on my nails from the weight of the towel. I dont want any of my nails to break but i do want them to be as long as possible. Im thinking i should just keep letting them get longer and longer until one does break and then assume thats a safe length and keep them at that length or a little shorter? what is everyones experiences or opinions on this?

Message: m,
just remember that nails, like hair, are at their weakest when they are wet. the longer nails are allowed to get, the weaker they become. their support is the finger. the farther they grow from the solid support of the finger the less support they have. if you do wait for one to break, to guide you, it may break so low you'll wonder what in the world was i thinking! breaking low is painful-believe me. flexible and healthy is far more beneficial than long. all the effort and time you put into growing them long, can be gone in the blink of an eye.

Message: m, I don't like my nails very long. They break anyway so I make sure I cut them because they get to that uncomfortable stage. If I were you I'd do the same. Nothing like having 9 long nails and then that stubby one. Like Cheryl said, the longer they are they tend to break really low anyway and you don't want that pain.

Message: My nails are very long, about an inch and a half, and while I love having them long and pretty, it hurts BAD when you accidentally hit them on something or bend them backwards. Having long nails means being more careful.

Why not just trim the nails to a length that is healthy?

Message: That's why I trim my nails before they get too long for my liking. I'm less likely to break them where it hurts when I keep them at a length that suits me.

Message: I type alot at work, so I keep my at kind of a "sport" length - if that makes sense. I rarely break a nail, or snag or chip one either.
