Message: that means that there is a fungus growing under it from putting foods and making them stay there for way to long and the black spots may also be bacteria growing under it from the same reason.

Message: My son also has this same problem. He's only 4, but I noticed the other day that he has a black (possibly a very very dark red) mark which begins from the edge of his skin (just a bit on the skin) and runs halfway down the nail.
What is this? What caused it? And how do you take care of it?

To me this sounds like the child has pulled a hang nail and it has become infected under the cuticle (excuse spelling) I read something about that yesterday but can't find the link to it again. If I come across that page again I will come back and post more. It said to use a steralized sharp tool, needle or sharp blade and while laying the sharp tool on top of the nail pointing up towards the red hot skin slide it up under the red hot spot, someone will have to hold the child. After making an opening you may need to squeese gently to get the liquid that is backed up in the area to come out but it should start coming out pretty quick after opening if you have made the hole in the right place. My sister had one of these when she was young and after releasing the infection out and cleaning it and keeping it clean it healed fine. But if you do this and it does not look like it is healing or looks worse I suggest you take the child to have a doctor to clean it out for you. You may want to do that to begin on anyway just to keep you from having to cause the pain to the child yourself. It's hard to do somehting that will have a child scream, and believe me, the child will scream, my sister did.

Message: I have been noticing a tiny black spot under a couple of my finger nails They are extremely small and they eventually grow out to the end. Is this some form of the body ridding itself of toxins or is it some problem with the blood stream?

Message: Those sound like blood spots from some sort of trauma, but you'd want to know what causes that if it continues.
