Subject: Polish

Message:
I know everyone on this board is recommending Queen Bees polish, but I have to ask......if I use a "regular" polish (i.e. Essie, OPI or others) will my nails fall off or what? Obviously the ingredients in these polishes are not the best, but are they ok to use on occassion? I am so overwhelmed right now with all the information that is out there. Thanks!

Actually, Christi, it is more the polish removal that is of concern. The polishes will dehydrate the nails, they actually offer no real benefits. But the acetone based polish removers are the bigger concern. Generally the removers are not really something most pay attention to though. And this is the product that is really stripping away all you need to have a healthy, flexible, balanced, hydrated nail.

Thanks Barbara, you are so helpful and I appreciate that! I have purchased from the Q about 2 months ago the TIPS products. I started to use them, but found too many restrictions so I stopped but not in time of course to return them to QVC, but one of the products in there was their remover. I'm not sure if you have ever tried it or not, but it seems pretty darn good. It is NON acetone and has like an oil base to is and doesn't feel drying at all. Any advice on that product?

Christi,
I have not ever used the TIPS of ProStrong or any of that. I only know the information I am told from those of you out there that have used these products.
I do know that Melissa at Honeybee Gardens has a polish remover too. That on I can say with certainty is not a product that will in any way harm the natural nail.
If your nails are unusually dehydrated, a bit of vitamin e oil is beneficial. Just rub it in and it will provide a much needed kick of natures nutrient.

Very Strange...I posted again, but it's not showing up here, so I'm trying again.

Thank you Barbara you have been so helpful and I appreciate it. A few months ago I purchased from QVC the TIPS system. It became too restrictive and of course I ran out of time to return it, but in there was some of their polish remover. I tried it and it is not drying at all and has like an oil base to it. Do you have any knowledge of this product or can you recommend a "non-acetone" polish remover that you feel would not be drying to your nails? I have in the past used brands like Sally Hanson's, but even the "non-acetone" variety seems to dry out my nails. Like I said, up until now the only one I've ever tried that didn't dry my nails out is the TIPS. Any information you could give would be helpful. Thanks!

Christi, remember this is all my opinion. Let me get in on this nail polish remover conversation though. I used the whole schebang of ProStrong and I'm convinced that's what got me into trouble in the first place. My cuticles were screaming because they were so dry but this NGF seems to be addressing the cuticle issue very well. I then proceeded to use NailTek and that definitely didn't help the cuticle issue but did make my nails long (I'm sure ProStrong got the ball rolling with the cuticle issue). Even though they were weak but long with the NailTek. Not as strong as with NGF. I did use the ProStrong polish remover for a bit but no way will I ever use another ProStrong product again. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I have the TIPS polish remover and I like it alot because it seems to have an oil in it and doesn't dry out the nail. As I said, this is my opinion but that's the way I'm gonna go until I at least exhaust my supply of TIPS polish remover. After using the NGF I'm convinced the TIPS oil really won't benefit me more than the NGFso TIPS oil is out.

Years ago I used TIPS. It's a thin, perfumey oil and the fragrance was irritating to my cuticles. It made the nails seem very transparent and flexible. They didn't peel, but the did break down low by the quick because they bent so easily. No likey.

Hol, before I found NGF in Fall, I used ProStrong after removing my acrylics. It was great for about a month till the drying kicked in. My nails were sensitive and the added layering of the product felt good at the time. Then they became absolutely brittle. I've read that on the QVC forums from many others as well.

Funny you should mention this, Lynnie, about the ProStrong. I guess I was a diehard with ProStrong and didn't want to believe what I was reading on the Q boards but finally cancelled my auto-ship of the TSV. I'm usually the one behind the 8 ball (lol). Took me a while to catch on. Even when using the TIPS my nails still did split/peel so this NGF is like a blessing in disguise. Basically EVERY product I used pointed to dryness but not with this NGF. I do get nicks occasionally (I knew that was too good to be true) but nowhere as near as before. Out of all the nailpolish removers I've tried the TIPS impresses me the most. Since I have it on hand I'll exhaust my supply until I read on these boards that somebody has found the magic poition.

Thanks Hol and Lynnie for your input. I too was using ProStrong for about 2 weeks, my cuticles have NEVER looked so bad. They are now cracked and peeling, needless-to-say I will NEVER use that product again. I also used TIPS until it became such a hassle, but as I said got a little sample of the polish remover and though like Hol did that it's been the best so far. My nails didn't feel dried out or anything......I went on their website yesterday to find out what ingredients are.......and the very first ingredient is ACETONE! which, by what everyone on here is saying is the absolute worse thing you can put on your nails. So I guess I won't be using that anymore :) I am hoping to get my NGF today!! I'm getting so impatient! LOL!

Christi,
acetone is very dehydrating to use when removing polish, but it is the quickest, which is good. just be sure whatever remover you use has moisturizers in it and use the NGF immediately after washing.

Christi, you mean TIPS nailpolish remover has ACETONE in it? YIKES! Has ANYBODY come across something else that doesn't have acetone in it? I'm an avid nailpolish user and once the 30 days are up I "hope" to go back to nailpolish although some ladies here said they haven't gone back to nailpolish because their nails look so pretty. Christi, this NGF is helping my cuticles tremendously. Even though the ProStrong dried out my cuticles they seem to be responding to the NGF well (today makes a week of using it and already I can see results). Sure hope you get your NGF formula soon and you'll see the wonderful results too! What I find is that in the am I have to put the NGF on AFTER my shower because my nails feel dried out if I put it on before my shower (it's like it's washed away). Maybe this is true in the beginning. I could be just feeling dried hands though. Do whatever works best for you though.
