Subject: detached from the nail bed
Message: Hi
I used acrylics for one year then because I hated the filing down process and thining I switched to stick ons and glue for 12 months. I'm now in month two of naked nails !!
Some of my nails are still detached from the nail bed so I have to apply nail polish to help disguise the opaque look. Luckily I didn't get fungal infections but I hate the look of too much detached nail and wonder how I can assist the reattachment. I still have to keep them ridiculously short because they are so thin and they split. Please advise me :-)

Message: helen,
once detached, they will not re-attach. it just takes time for the nail bed to grow completely out. keeping them hydrated is the key right now. go check out the nail growth formula found on this site. it will put you on the right road to getting your nails back.

Message: Thank you for responding Cheryl, I will order the formula because we don't seem to have much around in Australia. Acrylic nails took longer to become popular in Australia than they did in England and the USA. So not much around to repair the nails after one gives up on acrylic.
I'm a bit confused, about the nail bed taking time time to grow out completely. At the moment, my nails reach almost to the tip of the fingers. Do I have to wait for the new nail to grow from cuticle to the tip of finger before it is likely to look attached? Thankyou for your help.

Message: helen,
first, what a beautiful continent and incredibly friendly people, where you reside. best trip my husband and i have taken, by far. but, why do you have to be so far away?!!
you will be so happy with the results from the nail growth formula. it has worked wonders for many of us-post acrylic and even those that never wore them. acrylics are just going to be the "death" of our own nails, over here. a lot of women just don't understand the damage going on underneath, until they are removed due to infection, fungus, or allergic reactions to the acrylic. the damage is done on the first day. the nails are so thinned down. it may take as long as a year to completely recover from the acrylics and grow a new healthy, attached nail. some ladies here, still have ridges and uneven portions as much as 2 years later. i know you feel "nakedy" without polish on them, but the nail growth formula works so much better and you'll see greater hydration, without polish, for the first 30 days. just something to consider. we all want it to work its optimal best. you're on the right road, now, at least, and in a year you won't believe you ever had the acrylics to begin with! any questions, let us know. nice ladies here AND a wealth of information!

Message: Thankyou so much for your warm response Cheryl and yes I agree Australia is a wonderful place.
As for my nails, well in the end it was my horrified son ( a newly graduated doctor) that explained to me about the damage I was doing. He said they couldn't recover properly from the acrylic process if I covered them with the stick on nails because water gets trapped underneath and keeps them soft. So I threw them out too. So good to hear that others have recovered from this. I'm the only one who manicures my nails now and I intend keeping it that way. Shame about keeping polish off, but I understand. Can't wear my gorgeous big rings at the moment either because they look stupid with short ugly nails. Thanks again Cheryl. :-)

Message: helen,
you will wear your beautiful rings again, i promise! in keeping the polish off, the NGF has a direct route, if you will, to the nail bed. just faithfully apply the formula twice a day for the first thirty days. in the beginning, that's the most important. the formula goes a long, long way. very emoillient, but absorbs quickly into the nail bed. you will notice the difference in your cuticles and also in how "pink" your nail beds will become in a few weeks. it's an up hill battle here in the states to get women and girls, unfortunately, to give acrylics up. we are all amazed, here, that women will continue to have fills and have horrible allergic reactions, fungal and bacterial infections and complete lifting of their own nails and still go back, week after week, for fills, wondering the entire time what is going wrong with their nails. unfortunately, they are being lied to over and over. too few really reputable manicurists out there. the $$$'s in acrylics. again, you have any questions, just let us know.

Message: Thanks Cheryl. I hope it doesn't take too long to get here. I've been applying one of the few products we can get here, but it really is a coating that makes the nail feel firmer. It should only be on your nails for 5 days then you are supposed to rest them, so I took it off before work today, and one of the short nails snapped. The product is called Revitanail ( made by Private Formula, Dr Lewwin)we can now get the good Doctors products in chemists wheras for a long time they were mail order. Revitaoil is its partner product and I use that too. But the nails are ridiculously thin and break so easily without protection on them. Can't wait to begin my new regime. :-)
