Subject: The Word from my Derm
Message: Ladies, yesterday I had a dermatology appointment. One of my issues was a thumbnail with a darker streak on the edge. We were watching that for possible melanoma and considering biopsy. Well, now that my new set of nails since acrylics is totally in I also notice a few random light vertical lines on a couple other nails, always at the edge for me. I remember how the techs buff and drill close to that edge to bevel the acrylic. My derm's conclusion is acrylic DAMAGE and he said to "stay away from them, they're no good". This is a guy who also specializes in Botox Cosmetic, so he understands and caters to vanity! Thus, I don't consider his view of acrylics to be slanted.
I don't know if this will improve over time, just as some of us still have the wavy or bumpy nail or two. Time will tell, I guess. It's not real noticeable on me, thank goodness.
And, on an aside, I was PROUD to show him my set of long, healthy natural NGF nails! He said they look good!

Message: Hi Lynnie,
I wanted to ask you about Andrew Lessman's Hail Skin and Nail vitamins. Is it okay to take the two at the same time or does it help to spread them out over the day? I only ask because I know you told me that they were making a big difference. I have only taken them for a few weeks but I take two together so as not to forget. Let me know what you think since they are working for you.
Thanks bunches,
Debbie

Message: Debbie,
I'm not taking the Hair, Skin and Nails supplements at the moment, but I do take several supplements due to health issues. As a general rule, I like to spread supplements out because with some vitamins and nutrients, the body can only absorb or use a certain dosage at one time - anything more than that usually just gets excreted. I will say that I have called Andrew Lessman's company in the past to ask them some questions, and they were very helpful in researching information for me, so you could always call the 800 number on the bottle. But I will defer to Lynnie's recommendation since she's had success with the product.
Congrats, Lynnie, on showing off those beautiful, natural nails!

Message: Thanks, all! Yes, it's good to hear that from a derm. More importantly, I wanted to pass the message along here that, no matter how you slice it (or file and fill it!), acrylics are not good for you, period! He immediately rolled his eyes because he probably sees tons of acrylic related problems and people who are resistant to removing them.
Debbie - Debodel is the Lessman's expert and I think Moi is also taking it now, but I agree with the others about spreading them out if you can think of it - maybe one in the a.m. and one at dinner or bedtime? I'm taking a ripoff, but I do see the diff in both my hair and nails. It's Nature's Bounty from Walgreens and has 3000 mcg of Biotin, along with a bajillion other vitamins and minerals. I'm only taking one daily as a rule, two when I think of it. I wanted to test run the Biotin before going for the Lessman's. Now I have a question for YOU. Does the Lessman's have Glucosamine in it? If so, how much? I take that for minor arthritis. It would be great to knock off nails and arthritis in one supplement!

Message: Lynnie,
I just checked and the Lessman Hair Skin and Nails supplement does not have any Glucosamine in it. It does however have 2.5 mg or 2,500 mcg of biotin, a little less than Nature's Bounty. Maybe I will try Nature's Bounty, too. I am assuming that Nature's Bounty does have the Glucosamine that you desire. So sorry to hear about your arthritis. Have you been dealing with it very long? I know it can be so very painful. Is it in your hands?

Message: Hi Debbie - Wow, I am shocked that the Lessman's has 2500 mg. It would be interesting to compare these two. I could swear someone posted that Glucosamine was added, but it's possible it is added to a different Lessman product as a "bonus"! That's sweet of you to express your concern. I had a weird virus last year that set off secondary rhuematoid arthritis in my hands and arms. That's when I started taking Glucosamine, but I think it was time that helped the issue resolve more than anything else and I'm glad to say I'm feeling pretty much better now. I'm lucky but I feel for people that have had it for years, don't know how they deal with that relentless aching! Thanks again.

Message: Lynnie,
Just wanted to clarify -- Lessman's has 2.5mg of
biotin or 2,500 micromilligrams. They list it both ways for some reason. That's actually .5 mg less than Nature's Bounty. I rechecked and still do not see glucosamine listed. So very glad you are feeling much better. Take care

Message: I agree with Jill about some vitamins tend to be excreted so I'd take one in the am and one in the pm. Calling the 800# should give you the answer you're looking for though. I'm taking Extra Strength Estroven and take one pill when I get up in the morning and the other pill when I feed my dog her dinner. Works for me. BTW, thanks Lynnie for the insight into acrylics. I had them quite a few years ago for a few years and had to cease getting the fill ins when hubby lost his job. Since, I don't regret it at all and like the natural way better especially since I have found products that work. Getting older your patience seems to run out anyway.

Message: Hol - I'm glad anything I said about acrylics might have helped you. My dear, you are at the height of fashion now with your natural "spa nails". Your cuticles will fall in line very quickly now that you are using the NGF. I can tell you are dedicated and I assure you, it WILL payoff tenfold (as in a set of perfect 10)!
