Subject: Nails - Finger Infection
Message: I had quite bad finger (just at the edge of the finger nail) infection recently and after a dose of antibiotics, the swelling has gone.
However, now i noticed that my finger nail has somewhat seperated from the edge of the finger. I can actually see some skin and a small gap between my finger nail and edge. Does this mean my finger nail is dying? What should i do?

Message: adrian,
it's seperating at the point where the infection was probably the worst and where the nail is "least" attached to the finger. i don't think your nail is dying. it's not really what we would call "alive" anyway. i would just continue to watch it for more seperation and keep it dry where it is seperated, so moisture doesn't lead to more infection. tea tree oil is an excelent healing oil and disinfectant. it can be found in most health food stores.

Thanks for replying. I think i was misunderstood, (bad explanation on my part) The seperation is occuring when the nail is most attached to the finger, meaning the bottom of the nail/finger (area), where i assume it grows from. And not the top. Is this part what you call the cuticle? Does this mean it is more serious?
I will get some Tea Tree Oil, hopefull my nail doesn;t get detached!

Message: adrian,
you are correct, i did misunderstand where the seperation is. a chance you take, i guess, when we rely on this form of communication! has the area where it seperated become larger in size? if not, then it should just grow on out with the nail. the tea tree oil will help and as it grows out keep it dry so bacteria doesn't start growing in that space. what caused the infection initially? as i'm sure you know, if that area becomes red or inflamed, get to a doctor.
