Subject: Board Dynamics in General
Message: Barb - I'm carrying this over from the other thread. You asked what I thought about whether or not Q had planted vendors or others to watch the boards. I just recently got into a similar discussion with some troll over on the Anything Goes board. So, for what it's worth, and based on what I know from someone who hosts some larger sites with attached forums, I don't think those boards on Q have become much more than a free-for-all. They probably started out as a way to attract people to the website when they constructed it. The original intent was probably discussion of THEIR product lines and for users to help each other with website use. At one time, when they were smaller, they were probably monitored more closely for content. When they became larger, they had to rely on users to make it somewhat of a self-monitored forum. Some of those users, having been around since the early days, report violations but they seem to do so only where they see fit. And, when there is no advise button available, they simply send email instead.
Those boards (again, in my opinion) have become more of an albatrosse to Q. They can't even justify using a fulltime person to monitor them here and there. The board population is miniscule compared to the general Q population. A significant portion of board patrons aren't there to buy, as you know! Nor does the website need a board system to keep it rolling now. People shop online all the time now WITHOUT the personal touch. In a nutshell, I think those boards are not an integral part of QVC as a corporation or as a selling point. They are only as good or useful as the people using them on a given day. A teensy percentage of sales are probably generated by board peer pressure, but the majority are people who still rely on their phones, TV's and the website product lists.

Message: You always have a clear perspective on these things. I, on the other hand, am skewed and a bit perverted! lol
I run on emotion rather than logic, so that is what usually gets my butt in the crack! Between you and Cheryl and Ruth, my head stays on pretty straight though! Thanks for your thoughts on this. Very interesting and clear.

Message: Barb, I'm by no means an expert, but those boards are not nearly as powerful or important as some of the hardcore users like to think because it is their little world on the net. QVC could shut down those boards tomorrow without a hit to profits. Now, if the women buying Diamonique and Jean Bice boycotted those products, there WOULD be a problem!

Message: I just read your post on the Acrylics thread. Tell smoochy to email you and get her information for me and I will send her a jar of the formula. I would hate to see her put on the fakes. I thought everyone had talked her out of that a couple of months back. Do you mind? If you would rather not I will totally understand. Thanks anywho!

Message: some "manicurist" over talking about other ways she used on herself, and, i'm betting her customers, to remove acrylics. sounded like soaking them off the correct way was something new to her! sounds like popping them off was her method of torture.

Message: Barb - I don't know smoochy and her email is hidden. So is mine these days and I tend not to get involved anymore much past what you see me posting on the board. Only so many hours in the cyber day! If someone asks me for more info, then I'll jump in.
Cheryl - I think it is the rare tech that will soak them off for you. The first two techs who removed them for me did that awful nipping. My last (and best) soaked. Of course, it helps if you tell them you plan on paying them as if you would for a fill! Then they will take the time you'd normally get to do the job gently.

HI CHERYL! You got that right. How are things in Mississippi? Did you get to New Orleans yet? If so, how was it?

Message: I've recently seen a product/contraption that you put your acetone in and you rest your hand on it somehow making it more comfortable to soak the nails off. I saw it at WalMart.

Message: I HAVE to slip this in here. If any of you read the Anything Goes (to h*ll) Board, be very careful about who you send to this site for a while. There is a poster, the former Snowpetals, who is seriously imbalanced in my opinion. She keeps coming back under new names and is very ingratiating before she self-destructs. It isn't often that I hestitate to merely address someone, but I tiptoe around this one. She would absolutely devastate this board and plague everyone here with email. I'd hate to see this happen to Barb.

Message: Ya know Lynnie,
Screw it! I will absolutely block their IP! I am not at all afraid of those types. But something funny just happened. As soon as I had finished reading this post, our business line rang, a female voice came on a said something like, "You witch!" (caller forgive me if I misquoted!) I couldn't help but laugh. It is so warped when someone has that for a life.....It is interesting that so many forget that there are gadgets to on phones these days to identify where a call comes from.....
