Subject: Queen Bee
Message: I hope my rant last night on the "nasty" topic didn't distress you! I'm very happy to see that QVC has undertaken a relationship with your company, and I hope it is a very fulfilling one for you!
My issue was with the women that at one moment were in a frenzy for the next greatest skin treatment; in the next heartbeat they were ready to burn a couple of people at the stake. All of this based on OPINIONS they were reading on a silly message board. I really need to stick to my initial instincts and stay right away from that forum. A toxic place.
Again, I hope your business flourishes! :^ ) lark

Message: No distress. Sad that people have to act that way, esp. toward total strangers. Very sad.
Things took an unhappy turn on the Q front today. We've exceeded our breakage allowance. QVC allows for 1% returns due to breakage. Because my *won't use the word I'm thinking* packer made the felt strips 1.5" instead of 3", the bottles clanged together and we had some breakage. Too much. Which means they're returning the unsold product to us. I still haven't heard anything else about whether or not they'll have us back, but the QA department has put a mark against us. I'm trying to reach my buyer now for more info. I guess the good news is that I'll put it on my web site for less $.

Message: I'm sure they have come across this type of thing before with newer vendors. Perhaps you can assure them you're changing the packaging and that breakage won't be an issue in the future.

Message: Lark - It will be interesting to see what happens there now re Microdermx. No matter what happened with those distributors, though, it is still a product people people will use, or perhaps buy under the Epidermx label. The hysteria about credit cards and calling it a scam was totally over the top. It is a shame that Barbara went there honestly and innocently, yet was treated in the same manner. IF I see that Microdermx remains a topic on that board while NGF is continually poofed, I will have something to say about THAT!
Melissa - well THIS is a disappointing turn of events! I just checked and it is still in their system. Keep me posted on that. I would like to review the product there, but I think it is best to let some of the dust settle. And it would an honest review based on my having used it, just as I have reviewed it here, and not because you have used this forum. If Q doesn't pan out, have you ever approached HSN or ShopNBC?

Message: QueenBee, I'm sorry to read of the problems! I hope they can be resolved in your favour!
If you don't mind saying, I'ld like to hear how you got your product on QVC. It must have been an exciting, nerve wracking turn of events!

Message: Melissa, that is just a little bump in this long road. Surely they will not just *QUIT* you???? They will give you a chance to correct any of those problems. Please know though, that we know how to contact you directly and just because of an issue there, it will NOT have a nevative effect on how we all know first hand, that your work ethics and products are above the standard. So regardless of the Q issues, I will cartainly let any one with ears to hear, know of your products! (Thanks to Lynnie for turning us on to this one!)
Lynnie, I appreciate what you say with regards to my being on QBB, but we all know I had no business there as ME! You can't be honest there. I should have actually read the agreement before I hit that "I AGREE" button. lol I will watch for that in the future!
Lark, there is a link on the Q site to get the information on becoming a vendor.

Message: I won't bore you with all the details on how we got on Q, but briefly, we went to one of their product searches last April. You have about 5 minutes to present your product to a buyer. We happened to get a buyer who is into natural products. We presented our polish, and she was already familiar with our brand. She explained they were looking for unique-to-QVC products. I thought quickly and mentioned that we could develop a brand exclusively for them - this got her interest. She asked me to re-present the line in two weeks. I scrambled to create a whole new brand, and made my presentation - they went for it. The next weeks and months were devoted to attending their classes, learning about their operations and meeting demands constantly. It was NOT easy, up to literally the last minute. But they are a sales-oriented company. Our goal was to sell $5500 worth of product per minute. That's what they want regardless if there's a national disaster going on and everyone's tuned into CNN - doesn't matter. It's all dollars per minute. How much money can you make them. I won't take up any more of Barbara's forum discussing this (she's been so nice to allow HBG discussions), but if you have any questions I'm happy to answer them - you can email me at hbginc@comcast.net

Message: melissa,
it's so interesting to know how things work especially from someone who's been through "the hoops", so to speak! it's always never as easy as it looks. i had a feeling they could be pretty demanding. would you do it again knowing what you know now?

Message: Thanks QueenBee! That's an accomplishment!
I like hearing behind the scenes stories.
Me? LOL I have no wonderful product to put out in the market! Thank heavens Barbara and you are coming up with them!

Message: Cheryl, they are VERY demanding, and provide little assistance. A lot falls on your shoulders, and God help you if you miss one little thing. That said, I have much more respect for them now than I used to. It's an amazing business model. Would I do it again (or will I, if given the chance)? Yes. And now I'm more prepared.

Message: Melissa,
Thanks for the glimpse behind the scenes. I've been in marketing and advertising for decades, and I've always been fascinated by TV shopping, both as a consumer and as a marketer. Whenever I've seen the news magazines or other programs do the behind-the-scenes stories about QVC or HSN, it is very apparent how demanding the channels are, and as you say, it's all about sales-per-minute. Kudos to you for getting so far along the process while maintaining the integrity of your products.
I subscribe to numerous catalogs for people who are chemically sensitive, and there is such a need for products like yours.Obviously you can make more sales through QVC or HSN or one of the other channels than through a catalog, but you are meeting a true consumer need and that's the hallmark of good marketing.
I wonder if any of the major chains of health food stores such as Whole Foods would be a worthwhile outlet. I really wish a beauty chain like Sephora would have a section within their stores that are more naturally oriented.
Please keep us posted on how things go with the Q. We anticipate seeing you on there soon.
Jill
