Subject: Acrylics are so bad - Part 2
Message: Kate - I caught your post on the bottom of the last thread re the irritation from having a new set put on. (Now you know why all of us here have ditched the acrylics as that stress factor doesn't get better with time and muliple fills.) For you, I'm hoping it was just the stress of the application and the chemicals on your cuticles giving you a temporary problem. I would rub some anti-biotic ointment into those cuticles a couple days if I were you, just to prevent possible bacterial infection. If they start to itch and become inflamed and it lasts, you may have to consider allergies to the product. If you ever need to remove them, consider using NGF to restore the moisture and general nail health afterwards.

Message: Well Kate, you are probably not going to receive my response well. My initial thought is that your body is telling your to get those things off before any real and lasting damage is done! We have reactions to things because it is the bodies mechanism to make us pay attention. The pain is indicative of a problem that will likely not just go away. It will only get worse. If your tech wants to put something on them for pain, the answer is simply remove the problem and the pain will cease. Why is it in this country we only treat the symptoms and never address the problem?
Honestly Kate, put your time and effort into making your own natural nails the jewels they are intended to be. Less stress, pain, and money involved. Not to mention the ongoing maintenance of the fake nails.

Message: Barb - as a former acrylic user, there is one area I might differ with you. When it comes to removing them, it is almost best to wait 2 or 3 weeks unless you are having a fullblown allergic reaction to the acrylic itself. She maybe be just aggravated by the primer they use or the pressure. When it comes to removal, you're almost better letting a little growth and lifting occur. They come off easier and the beds don't look as devastated underneath.

Message: Lynnie, that all makes great sense. And since I have never used the acrylics, I really have no knowledge on that issue, so I am all for what you KNOW as opposed to what I THINK should be! Thanks for the insight. You guys are walking encyclopedias on this stuff!
I am certain of one thing, if they would just do some serious research, they would conclude that the best thing they could do for their nails is to concentrate their efforts on what comes natural!
