Subject: Vacation Update

Message:
Hey Ladies, Well - my sister went home yesterday. We had a great time - until we got home from shopping on Friday and my husband told me that he has received the news and "the letter" regarding his job at Delta. It looks like as of April 1st he will be laid off. Other than that, it was an awesome week. Today, I have just sat with my laptop - catching up on emails and BB's and watching LifeTime movies.

Oh no! Deb I am so sorry to hear about the layoff! That stinks. Have you guys been making contingency plans? I hope he has something already waiting in the wings. (no pun intended!)
I am glad you enjoyed your sisters visit. I will lay you odd that Lenox and Phipps and several other like Mall of Georgia are lighter in the merchandise! I hope it was as great as it sounds!

Deb,

I'm sorry about your husband's situation, too. I certainly hope that Delta will provide a decent financial package to help your family make the transition for a few months.

I'm glad you had such a great time with your sister. I agree with Barbara, there are probably many stores and malls that have seen a recent reduction in inventory!

Jill

Hi Deb,
I feel for you guys- hang in there! When I was furloughed from UA, I did get to collect unemployment compensation from the state for 9 months. It was about 1/2 my pay. United doesn't give ANY severence compensation for furloughs... does Delta? I sure hope you get through this okay. I know it'll be tough. Sending good thoughts your way, Skygal

Hey kiddo!
I'm glad your visit with your sis was such a success. Memories can never be taken away, unlike jobs.
I'm sorry about your hubby's situation. I will keep you in my prayers, and please let us know how it's going.

Thanks so much to each of you for all of your kind words. Fortunately, we prepared for this last year when we downsized and put our house on the market. It sold in a mere 45 days and we moved into an apartment. I think Delta offers him 1 weeks salary for each year with the company - so that's 8 weeks, and we have continued medical coverage for 3 months - which will be needed with my rheumatoid. But, regardless of this minor bump in the road - for almost 25 years my husband has been an awesome provider for our family, and I don't see that changing because of Delta. He has been looking for another job for quite some time and I am confident that the Good Lord will provide just the right job for him when the time is right.

You know Deb, some time these situations turn into a triumphant change for the better. We will pray that all the Delta employees, where ever they are, will regain their footing and be better for it. Those big money men in these corporations should be publicly displayed as the poster children for abuse of public and private trusts! I will lay you odds their *GOLDEN PARACHUTES* land their fat arses comfortably!

Deb - Sounds like you and Sis had a grand time! I'm sort of glad the layoff news didn't come till now so it wouldn't put a damper on your vacation. I love your confidence in hubby and I'm sure it's deserved on his part and reassuring to you. A friend of mine works for American Airlines and he's become miserable there over the past few years because of all the hits the company asks employees to take re benefits and pay.

So, they say when one door closes a window opens. Hope it will be that window of opportunity for your husband!

kind of feels like we're all waiting for it, doesn't it? my husband has been an employee of delta for 17 years. 49% paycuts over 2 years are a little tough, but, no job, is worse.

Thanks so much for those kind words, Lynnie. We are fortunate in so many ways. I am fortunate to have a good job, so that if he needs to take a little time to do whatever he needs to do - we can certainly afford that. Lord knows he has given me that opportunity several times over the past 25 years. The guy I work for has been with Delta for 27 years as a pilot. I know that this is hard on so many people. I do not envy the pay cuts that he has had to take. And I am not speaking for all situations, but even after the paycuts that he has taken - he is still able to make a decent living. It's a little rough trying to stay non-objective at work and then supportive at home where Delta is concerned. Anyway - today is the first day back on the job and I am sure I will be swamped. Take care and I hope that eacy of you has a great day!!!

Cheryl, I went back and read my previous post and please do not take what I said personally. After I read it again, it seemed that if taken out of context that I am not aware of the sacrifices that all Delta employees have had to make, and that is not the case at all. I was just commenting on my personal situation. I spend my day with a Delta pilot and my evening with a Delta mechanic. Talk about sacrifices....lol I just wanted you to know that it was not a personal attack on you or your husband, if that is the way it came across to you. Please know, it is not!!!
