Subject: fungal/bacterial infections
Message: I just got off the phone with a real whiz kid, Pagan, in Canada. She informed me of a Purity Product (purityproducts.com) that will absolutely KILL fungal/bacterial infections. It is Oil of Oregano! She said to be careful about purchasing cheap imitations. They will not work because they are *diluted* with things that just are not of benefit for the purposes here. I am hoping she will soon join us in conversation here. She is quit qualified with her knowledge in holistic and herbal remedies.

Message: Did she call inquiring about NGF?
Barb, I was just looking at my nails this morning and I still cannot believe that I have lovely, natural nails. My oldest daughter even said she is jealous of me!!! That is such a huge compliment and a testament to this product!

Message: Moi,
Thank you for saying that. You are always so thoughtful, even if you are not from the South! lol
Yes she is getting the Lg. jar of Growth Formula. I was blown away at her knowledge of herbs, etc. I really hope she will join in! We can pick her little encyclopedia brain!

Message: I have lots of experience with Oil of Oregano. It's one of the many natural anti-fungal, anti-bacterial supplements that my Lyme M.D. as well as my Lyme naturopath had me on. Purity Products makes some very good products and their spokesperson is very knowledgeable. However, the only brand that both my Lyme M.D. and Lyme naturopath recommended for me is by Biotics Research Corporation and goes by the supplement name of A.D.P. I had to special order it through a certified nutritionist. The brand I used had a very strong aroma - when I took it I could really smell that oregano all the way up into my sinuses!
There are many natural anti-fungals/antibacterials you can use. Garlic is one of the best. This is the only thing that ever knocked out yeast infections for me (veterinarians often give garlic to dogs) plus it's good for your heart because it is a natural blood thinner (don't take it if you're on Coumadin or other blood thinners). I take garlic as one of many things to help my body battle Lyme and the other tick-borne diseases (these diseases are various type of bacteria and parasites, plus I get fungal infections from being on antibiotics, so I'm getting to be quite the pro)
The latest supplement my Lyme doctor wants me on is Olive Leaf Extract. It, too, has many natural antibiotic, antifungal and antiviral properties. The reason he wants me on it is more for its antiviral benefits, because having Lyme surpresses my immune system so much (much like a patient with HIV goes through) that any virus that is latent or dormant in the body then becomes active. I am starting the Olive Leaf Extract tonight.
A word of caution - any of these types of supplements can cause a die-off reaction where you can actually get flu-like symptoms as the bacteria or fungus die off and your immune system has to deal with cleaning it up. So always start with a low dose and see how you tolerate it.
By the way, for those of you suffering from the flu, elderberry is one of the best anti-flu herbs around. There are elderberry syrups and supplements you can buy at the health food store.
Many herbs or supplements can interact dangerously
with medications, so please discuss any combinations with a knowledgeable practitioner.

Message: Great info Jill, thanks for sharing that.
Pagan uses the actual oil drops and put them directly on the effected area. And she said pretty much the same thing you say about the interaction. She does not see a physician, i.e. M.D., any longer. Only uses the herbs!

Message: Barbara,
Thanks for clarifying for me that Pagan was talking about using the Oil of Oregano drops topically to be used in a localized area. I was talking about taking them internally for systemic infections. It makes sense that if someone has a nail infection, for example, try using something topically first!
Tea tree oil is also good on nail fungal infections. Many holistic practitioners such as Andrew Weil (if memory serves) recommends it for those stubborn nail fungus problems.
I love sharing this kind of information. Hi in advance to Pagan - I hope she joins our forum!

Message: She is all about holistic! And she was most interested in the growth formula, which did not hurt my feelings knowing how *funny* some are about trying new creams and ointments.
We will see if she decides to join our discussions. It would not really surprise me if she did not because she said she had never participated in a forum discussion board before.
I am hoping for a wonderful surprise here, like with Queen Bee Melissa from Honeybee Gardens! What a wonderful treat to have her here.

Message: Gena, I would suggest that you first get a definitive answer as to weather or not that is at issue.
From what I have read on the purity website, the product in actual oil for, not the pills, is fairly expensive. But if you have a fungus or bacterial infection, I would at least try that as opposed to the traditional meds they put you on these days. They seem to do little except line the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies. I am so leaning toward the holistic approach.
I used to have to use heavy medications until I went to an acupuncturist. Now every two years I go to my Dr in Atlanta and get my procedure with acupuncture and he gives me a special tea to drink for about 2 weeks, then it is back on my Yellow Mountain Green Tea until another 2 years rolls around. No pain at all!!!!! I can't tell you how good NO PAIN feels after so many years of misery! And NO DRUGS! I am in total control of my faculties, what few I have on my not so senior days!:x

Message: Hi Gena,
I agree with Barbara that it's important to get a specific diagnosis first - perhaps see a dermatologist. When I was a child, I was allergic to so many things, and would continually get rashes from soaps and various everyday items, plus probably some things that the dermatologist could never figure out. I had one horrible episode were big sections of several fingernails did separate from the nailbed, came off, etc - gross I know. Well, the dermatologist never figured out the cause, but I am mentioning it just because it happened during a period of my life where I had so many allergic reactions show up on my skin, I always figured that it was probably an allergic reaction to something that also affected the nail.
I was too young to use fingernail polish or anything, so it was probably a soap or something.
So that's why I'd say it's better to try to figure out if you're having an allergic reaction or sensitivity versus knowing it's definitely fungus, because the treatments can be very different. Who knows, maybe it's even a vitamin deficiency (you can do a google search - there's lots of information on nutrient deficiencies and nail problems).
When trying to figure out whether it's an allergic reaction, I find that I have to be my own detective because no doctor or alternative medicine practitioner can really know everything I come into contact with every day. I usually have to keep a journal of some sort writing down what I've eaten, what handsoap, laundry detergent, etc. I've used, if I'm trying to figure out an allergen.
Let us know what happens!
