Subject: Hard Coat/Quick Dry
Message: The other day in Target I saw a product (clear polish) that said in 60 seconds it would dry to a hard coat that would shine and protect any polish you have on, even if you put it on the wet polish. Basically, I think it is supposed to be used on top of wet polish, to keep it from smudging. Are these bad for your nails, if used atop something like Honeybee Gardens?

Message: Sometimes convenience can create unforeseen problems. Cheryl is exactly right about the contents. So "READ YOUR LABES". There are some alcohols that are not detrimental, but those *rubbing* alcohol types will dry up the Pacific! It evaporates at accelerated rates and cause the natural oils to evaporate at those accelerated rates! And it is hard to replenish the natural oils, as you well know. Maybe Melissa will stop in again later and address this.

Message: denatured alcohol (n.) Ethyl alcohol to which a poisonous substance, such as acetone or methanol, has been added to make it unfit for consumption.
isopropyl alcohol (n.) A clear, colorless, flammable, mobile liquid, (CH)CHOH, used in antifreeze compounds, in lotions and cosmetics, and as a solvent for gums, shellac, and essential oils.
This last one is not nearly as bad as the first one! Stay away from denatured alcohol unless absolutely necessary.

Message: Avoiding alcohol in nail products makes a lot of sense for me. One of the first things I learned to avoid in skin care products, especially things such as toners, is the alcohol. It is so drying to the skin!
And Barbara, I laughed out loud when you described that some rubbing alcohol types will dry up the Pacific! Well, I live three miles from the Pacific, so if there's ever a tsunami warning, I'll throw in a batch of rubbing alcohol to dry up that troublemaker!
Take care,
Jill

Message: Jill- you will at least need an early warning on that one!
